Default Simalarities - Islam and Judism

But yesterday I went to a funeral of a Jewish guy, and noticed so many similarities between there rituals and ours!

It was wierd, the guy show us how to wash and I knew exactly how to do it,, so he asks are you jewish Im like no Im muslim and we perform it the same way!

    Very interesting.

I also know how to wash, only the reasons maybe differ. Interesting! Must be because of conservatism. BTW we pray too, only to the real GOD, so there at least is also some similarities

With Islam, Mohammad tried to amalgamate the religions of Christianity and Judaism under one monolithic roof . If you believe fable, he was given this new holy information by the angel Gabriel. Others believe he tried to badly plagiarize the other holy texts to use religion as a control mechanism for his bandit raids.

Either way, it explains for a lot of the similarities between the religions

I am a theology student and can give you a clear cut answer as to why a lot of the rituals and, if you go even further beliefs and stories, are similar. The is because the Muslim religion began in (o.k I could be wrong about the person here, way to lazy to go find out) the time of Abraham, a famous Jewish character. It is therefore obvious that traditions and even easier, stories and parables ext. will be similar as at that time this was the things that were done. Hope that makes sence. I am going to try find my notes to make sure that this is right, but as far as I can remember this is the reason for why so many things are similar.

Can't you just wash the modern way, (ie. dip hands in Savlon), why traditional/fundamentalist way???

    Once again, missing the point.
He is talking about washing the corpse. Muslims and Jews, I dont know about christians, wash the corpse before burying it.

I dont think anyone gives a ***** if they use savlon or lux or even sunlight soap like you

Using the word fundamentalist is 1. uncalled for 2. Got completely nothing to do with what this is about. Washing your hands in a certain way doesn't make you fundamentalist. I guess it just shows ignorance on your part.
I am sure that in your family there are some things that are tradition to you, for example maybe having Sunday lunch or something, this is the way things are in your family and it is important for your family even if it doesn't have a specific reason, which by the way for Jewish or Muslim people it does have a reason, for you to just stop doing it wouldn't happen because it is important for your family. This is the same as the people who follow the Jewish religion or Muslim religion. I myself am not a Jew or Muslim but I at least have respect for them.

    Ok, apologies,

I did not note that he was talking about the corpse, if that is emotionally solving, then sure, go ahead.

Albeit, I don't agree that it has to be done in a fundamentalist/traditional way though, because their could be nothing to prove or solve, he/she has died, was judged(life as an exam) and has 'passed away'(or handed in the exam).

Why whould their corpse(which is about to rot anyway), need to be cleansed in a specific[fundamental] way now, after death('leaving their body')?
