Latency query

I have just upgraded my current ADSL line from 384 kb/s to the 1 mb/s. When I test my line speed through my ISP Provider (Axxess) I can see that the change has been made and that I am connected at the higher speed. The reason that I upgraded my line was for online gaming (mainly World of Warcraft). I was hoping that this would drastically improve my latency issues and bring it down considerably. Unfortunately I have just logged onto the game and can see no improvement whatsoever. I usually get about 600 latency and was hoping the new line would bring this down but nothing has changed? Why is this and is there something that I can do about this? Otherwise I am just going to downgrade my line again. I am currently on my 3GB shaped account as my 2GB unshaped account has run out for the month. I will wait for next month to see if on the unshaped account if it makes any difference. Does anybody have any ideas. comments or suggestions?

Latency and throughput are diffrent. Latency talks to how quickly the data goes from you to server and back. Throughput talks to how much data you can send and recieve. Your upgrade, although increasing your potential pipe, does nothing to speed up that trip the data takes. You need to purchase an unshaped account which will put you in the 300-500ms range. There is no way to get better pings, not because of Telskum but because of the distance from the server.

Except that you can still blame Telskum for selling shaped accounts as standard, hardly a universal practice.

Thanks for the replies. Well I am planning on dropping my 3GB Shaped account from next month onwards and upgrading my 2GB Unshaped to a 4GB unshaped in its place. So then I will have an unshaped account all month - but will my new 1 mb line benefit me on the unshaped account or not? Time will obviously tell

I just hosted a game of dota. My ping was 850. Its usually like 250?? can anyone maybe tell me why
