Hi Guys

I am a total N00b when it comes to this stuff, so any help would be appreciated.

My situation is as follows: I have a ADSL router plugged into a telephone jack which works perfectly (at Location A), no problems, I now require ADSL in a seperate flat (Location B) and cannot run a network cable. However, it is possible for me to run a phone line from the house to the flat, so I thought why don't I buy an ADSL Modem (Mecer) and then just connect that way....

Okay so i did that and entered my openweb account details (It says that i am allowed 2 concurrent sessions????) and the modem cannot connect, something about the line cannot be activated. So just to check that the line works in B I plugged the router in and it worked. However, when i plug the modem in at A it connects but does not receive.....

I really dont know if that makes sense....anyways I was wondering the following:
1. Can you have a modem and router connected on the same phone line.
2. Can you connect twice using the same login details, assuming thats what 2 concurrent sessions would mean.
3. Settings on the modem are incorrect, cause am currently using the default settings for a South African network.

Okay...Hope someone can help and thanks in advance

Short answer: No.

You can only have one device per line. It would be better to create a network to your existing router, if cabling is not an option look at a wireless network.

-A.

Or "dial in" from each machine using the same (iow one) router - useful if you want to use multiple accounts. For example my Xbox360 uses its own unshaped account to play online.

Seems more related to connecting multiple PCs to one ADSL line. Setting up a bridged connection still requires network access to the router.
