Necroing a thread 101

Just wondering if anyone has been able to get the iburst driver working on ubuntu 9.10.

I've been trying to get it right on my dads pc for the last week with no luck. The drivers over here (http://www.vdvyver.net/) havn't been updated for a while as far as I can tell so I dont think they support kernel 2.6.31 and I'm not really up to sitting and making all the changes myself because A) I dont know how and B) Linux confuses me at times.

Would any of you happen to have a working driver that I could just -make -make install?

My dad is using the new usb modem. Any help will be appreciated.

I've tried to convince my dad to just buy a router but thats a no go for him :/.
The latest driver for linux should be compatible with ubuntu 9.10 but I'm just having no luck. I'm going to try the on my linux mint installation today to see if there is any change.

Still having no luck. I got it working on linux mint 7 but cant get it to work on linux mint 8 which built off of ubuntu 9.10(me thinks) If anyone has been successful in installing the usb modem on ubuntu 9.10 please share your secret.

How on earth do I get iburst USB modem to work on ubuntu 9.10?

I downloaded the driver from source forge, did this:
sudo aptitude install build-essential linux-headers-generic

and now I get this when I do a "make".

 ‘struct net_device’ has no member named ‘priv’

lots of those similar errors.

I found it to work for 8.04 (for my USB modem), not sure how it does on 9.10

There might be more articles there that would be more helpful too.

mmm ? good question!

if you drop into a terminal and type lsusb once your modem is plugged in what does it find? Is your modem listed as 'struct net device'?

From the error code above it seems you may need to add the user named priv (yourself) to the group or device named 'struct net device', this can be done in groups and permissions under admin.

Hope that may help in a small way.

the generic headers are just extra bits and pieces you need to compile the driver, are you absolutely sure you downloaded the correct driver and have installed it?

tar -xf ibdriver-1.3.4-linux-2.6.28-rc2.tar

cd into ibdriver-1.3.4-linux-2.6.28

type: make

get a long list of errors,complaining about
error: ‘struct net_device’ has no member named [ various names here ]

Go to 'admin' and click on groups and permissions. Then check for a group named struct net device', then add yourself as a member to this group.

9.10 may require different bits and pieces compared to the original installer that are not covered in the linux headers you downloaded. You need to check out which errors the makefile command spews back at you and then you need to try and fulfill the required files and libraries manually by searching for and installing them via Synaptic.

I'm not on iburst and have no IBURPS modem so can't really help you from experience, can you paste the entire error codes it gives you from the make command please?

Good Day

I am in need of some assistance, Could anyone please help me with a working driver for linux. I have tried it on OSX 10.5.7 and could'nt get it to work and now switched to linux and hope to get it to work. I have the very first PCMCIA card for laptops but i'm using a PCMCIA convertor card. It work on all versions of Windows. Please HELP!!!
