Default Demonoid Torrent Tracker Shut Down by CRIA

"As of Tuesday, 25th September 2007, Demonoid is currently down, with no prior warnings from any moderators of the site. Both the main torrent page and the forum (fora) are no longer accessible. It is still possible to ping and trace the IP address of the site and it locates itself as in Canada. As of 6:45pm EST on 9-25-07, SSH and SMTP services are no longer active. Torrentfreak.com has since reported this is due to legal actions from the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association) who ordered Demonoid's ISP to shut down the site."

    More pocket/wallet protectionism going on...

Their business model is outdated, yet they don't want to change...

Christ-mass is NOT for Christians. Jeremiah 10.
Is the 10 Commandments for Christians?

Saturday is the Seventh day, Sunday is the first day.

I wondered why my torrents had already dropped off heavily in the last 24 hours... now they are horrendously slow and struggling to find seeders.

Two of the biggest torrent tracking sites gone... is this the end for Torrents? I hope they can come back quick!

Somebody mentioned in a comment at another forum that their webbie's HDD croaked. Dunno if it's true.

Does this mean, if you already have existing demoniod torrents, that they will all become useless? Or can might they still be active?

I think for some folks, the torrents are still active.. my seeds were still going after the site went down..

EDIT: As regards sites without pron - there's the ultimate killer-app, ad killer software - a free add-on for Firefox, called 'Adblock'
which effectively wipes the net clean for you, and you can remove all ads and ad-content sites

Remember to disable it on websites like myadsl which need ads for their existences.

re ads on MyAdsl - well, lets get technical.
I dont think one can say that MyAdsl 'needs ads for its existence' - that's a little dramatic. It needs ads to help the owner make some extra coin.

Originally this site was about the owner seeing that there was a need for a forum to express the many telecommunications problems and issues - and I doubt that 'advertising' and 'profit' was in his thinking. It was more about 'as long as I don't go into debt, I'm fulfilling a much needed function'.

That said, the owner's entitled to some revenue, sure. But ultimately, the instant a site owner becomes dependent on advertising revenue, those advertisers have achieved control of the site.
So one can argue that its quite a useful thing to help reduce the site owners profit margin, so that at no point does he become dependent on the x thousands of bucks each month, from advertiser A or B.
One of the reasons for the success of this Forum, is that it never (I think) set out to try and make money. The fact that it is making some, is great. Good for the Bossfellah

But I think its up to the individual to decide how much advertising they want to see.
