Question Where to buy DRM free music legally?

    Hi Guys

Firstly, sorry if this question was already asked somewhere else on the forum. I did a quick search and founded nothing.

Like the title says, I want to buy DRM Free music legally. I tried amazon.com but they only sell mp3 in the USA and I don't want to buy from a dodgy Russian site.

I also don't want to buy a whole album, because I don't have any more space in my room for all the CDs :P

Any links or help would be appreciated.

    Regards,

Ps. please guys don't give advice like downloading the mp3 illegally because I know that option exist and I don't want to do it.

DRM free . . . in SA . . . legally - I dont think you can. There are a few ways around using iTunes here and some of their music is drm free but it is a bit of an effort.

    www.legalsounds.com

    $0.09 per song

not dodgy, no scams, real good, i always buy from here. have to make your account with them.
It has its own download manger/program so if you stop downloading half-way through, you can re-download the next day/month/year because its in your account.
If we were made from dirt, why is there still dirt?

boramk thanks for the link. I did some research and it looks like the site is illegal. Because its Russian based the USA regulation doesn't apply to the site. So now I have another question: As a South African citizen are we allowed to download music from Russian site?

Like all things in life I think one needs to keep a balance, so where do one draw the line in downloading music? I would like to contribute to the band or even to the studio that allowed the band or artist to create the content. But I don't want to be chained down by DRM music or give my money to a person/website that is stealing content from someone else.

The question is do you want specific songs or just music?

If you are looking for good music the look at www.amiestreet.com or www.cdbaby.com or any one of a number of other indie sites.

Aime street does investment from Amazon and has a few mainstream artists on it but mostly it is indie stuff.
The best way is to buy iTunes gift cards and use those although I think going this route might put you in breach of the itunes terms and conditions but at least you are paying for the music.
The other option is to buy from the local download sites and burn a CD which you can then reimport into your music player of choice.

The people who hold the rights to the physical recording material will not let anybody host that material online without DRM.
    i.e. Record companies.

You mean locally? That's not the case overseas where iTS and Amazon are just two retailers who sell drm free music.

Has Amazon Forced Apple Into a Price Drop? - In the article they state amazon is selling DRM free music for 0.99c. So I actually tried to use the service and at the moment they only allow USA citizens to use the service. All I want is a trusted site like that to buy my music from.

The problem with DRM sites in SA is that you have to use Windows and IE and Media Player. As a Mac user it makes my blood boil.

On the other hand EMi are selling the full Radiohead back catalogue for £35. 320Kbps MP3 no DRM. Available 10 December.

    d- -b, just a thought:

It seems to be a moral issue for you to make sure that the correct poeple get the monies due to them - why not DL the songs you're after illegally and then PayPal the money to the artists as a donation? no one lose except for the RIAA (who should lose anyway)

If you like indie music or non-US labels then eMusic is quite good.

    $10 for 30 songs a month. The files are VBR MP3s at 192 - 224 kb\s, no DRM.
