Thread: DSL on a prepaid phone line?

  1. #1

Default DSL on a prepaid phone line?

    Hi,

a friend has a Telkom prepaid phone line. He wants to sign up with one of the DSL offerings......probably 1G Cybersmart "OnePrice"...

Will he need to "upgrade" his phone line to a "regular line" or can it remain on prepaid?

Also, if he uses Cybermsart OnePrice 1G....will be just continue to pay for his prepaid/voice calls as he currently is?

    Thanks.

AFAIK it needs to be a regular contract phone.

    Thanks for the response guys...

So, this will be treated as a "new" installation.....with a technician coming out to his premises and him being charged the installation price?

Just get him to convert his phone from prepaid to a standard line, then apply for ADSL after that. You shouldn't be charged for installation then.

It might be an idea to just try your luck and make a request to get ADSL activated on the prepaid line. If somebody fails to do their job properly you may be lucky and Telkom just goes ahead with the self-install option. Don't mention that it's a prepaid line - if they ask just say that it's a normal residential line and see what happens. Leave it up to Telkom to determine the type of line and cancel the installation if necessary. Try to place your order at a time when untrained staff are most likely to be on duty such as in the evening.

Too late Yotch - We already went to "convert" his line from Prepaid to "regular" the other day. It was done the same day and we have already put in the DSL application through Cybersmart.

Thanks for all the advice guys...

Please keep us up to date on the progress and how long it took in the end - I have to follow the same process soon (prepaid>normal> order through Cybersmart)

Now that's an excellent idea and suggestion
