  • Hi Mike,

I got one client from web job postings, the rest are all word of mouth. It's difficult to break in to an international market because those looking to outsource overseas are looking for the lowest price. Best thing is to network, network, network - locally and internationally since many locals have international contacts which is how I got a few of mine. Join projects if need be. Ask for referrals. Then once you get in do a damn good job. Over time word spreads. There aren't that many good reliable developers out there.

I find that Jhb clients are fine. CT is ok. Durban is shocking - I try to stay away from Dbn.
    Hi,
I saw a post of yours the indicated you freelance and most of your clients are international. I have been freelancing for around 6 years now and have had enough of dealing with local companies and looking at getting international contracts. With PayPal in SA this makes getting paid very easy too.
I am currently getting setup with oDesk but not sure if this is the best route to secure international contracts. Would you mind sharing your experiences with me and how you go about it to help me get a jump start? Would really be appreciated.

    Regards,
    Mike
