Buying an EV in South Africa

Chargers are not that expensive: This actually just supplies power to the car, the battery charger is built into the car itself. That is a 7kw charger, more than sufficient to charge all available EV's here. Also uses plug...

Buying an EV in South Africa

I need to replace my current car around January and I really wanted to buy an EV. I have access power both at work and at home with the solar I have installed, which means I can basically charge for free and my commute is around 30km per day with around another 30km running errands. An EV would...

FNB App (iPhone) - Lates update forces use of a weak password

This security feature now affects lastpass on desktop as well. This is going to seriously suck as I have to use a less secure password. No way I am going to memorise my 20 length password from lastpass.

Cool Ideas / Openserve Fibre - Poor Upload Speeds on TP-Link Archer C20 V4 [resolved]

Cool ideas have a thread under ISP's. They are pretty good to respond on queries there. Not sure about their support turn around. May take a few days to locate the problem.

Telkom and the 4 Mbps to 10 Mbps upgrade

There was something on MyBB news a while back. Telkom is discontinuing 4mb lines and upgrading everyone to 10's. I suspect it will take a while, as does everything they do.

    SADV Installation Feedback/Progress for Estates/Complexes

Yeah, SADV are not too bad. Installation is slow, but that is mainly due to poor planning and project management of the contractors they use. Going for the cheapest quote and limiting your installers to a R10k per house connected install fee may save you money on getting the fibre rolled out...

    SADV Installation Feedback/Progress for Estates/Complexes

Looks like our install will finally be done by the weekend. They are splicing the last few joints and have started testing. Handover should be early next week. Then SADV have their standard 3 weeks of testing and provisioning, so installs should start in January. *fingers crossed*

How long would you say till we go live?

How long would you say till we go live?

My fibre have been in the box and spliced for around 2 weeks. I had a rehabilitation issue, so I managed to get hold of the project manager here. He indicated that the build is finished except for 3 road cuts, but it will only be live in January, since they haven't started provisioning and that...

How long does it take for fibre to get installed in a area?

SADV had been busy here since beginning of august. Expecting it to go live mid December. Vuma started on another area I have interest in in October, expected date to go live is also mid December. It varies from operator to operator. Somewhere between 3 and 8 months I guess. More than 5 months...

Vuma vs SADV comparison on installation

In one of my premises we have SADV installing a network and at the same time at another premises we have Vumatel. Differences in build and construction: SADV's contractors are not as organised as those of Vuma. I expect this is to do with experience, as Vuma has built quite a few more networks...
