South Africans love their long drive to work

The vast majority of South African commuters enjoy their daily drive to work, according to an Autotrader UK study. South African respondents said they find the daily drive relaxing.

Autotrader's research also showed that South Africans who commute to work by car spend more time behind the wheel than people in any other country in the study, which included India.

What a load of BS!!!
Who enjoys sitting in traffic?

Nevermind that driving on these roads are dangerous, traffic lights not working, pot holes, bad roads, flooded roads, Taxi drivers etc.

"According to its data, South African commuters spend an average of 10 days, 4 hours, and 48 minutes behind the wheel of a car per year.

This is significantly higher than the global average of 10 days, 5 hours, and 53 minutes"

Clearly I haven't recovered from my hangover from the weekend and not reading that right, or that math is something special.

Ah, the wonderful MyBB maths at it again...

If SA'ns enjoy their time on these roads, it doesn't really say much about the quality of our home/work lives.

Doesn't add up for me. I drive 2.5 - 3 hours a day, in horrible traffic.

There is roughly 250 working days in a year.

250 x 2.5 = 625 hours a year in traffic

625/24 = 26 days and some change.

WAY above that 10 day global average

they should have asked the people who aren't checking emails or watching tiktoks while they drive. i personally find it pretty stressful having to constantly dodge idiots on the road, parking lots, inside complexes, etc

Had a lady at the office driving 2h a day to and fro work instead of just moving closer and walking to work. Many stupid people around.
A lot of people would, if they could afford it.

Also unless the company is conveniently located, you'd have to be even dumber to move house for a company...

They use a bit of an odd way of calculating by the looks of things.

From what I can see, they'd take your 2.5 hours, they'd take those 250 days and then subtract the country's annual leave average, take away total public holidays, they'd also consider if the work week is maybe shorter in some countries (maybe due to WFH or whatever), and then calculate the yearly total.
So in your case might by 2.5 * 210 / 24 for example.

So if your commute is 1 hour a day, and me in a different country it's 1.5 hours, my annual total might be less than yours cos we have fewer working days.
Basically the calculation is not the same for every country.

Where the f@ck did they get that BS from?

Trucks, taxi drivers and Sixty60 bikers...
...and our fellow road users because it's not *only* taxis not stopping when they're meant to.

It's not *only* taxis using the shoulder as a private use lane then ramming themselves back into traffic at the last second.

It's not only the taxis coming to a sudden stop IN the road becuase of "reasons"

I have weekly near misses with a-holes screeching to a stop behind me because they assumed I would jump a stop/light. I have actually been rear-ended by a few. I regularly get hooted at for daring to stop.

Not even mentioning the "responsible parents" who are dropping their spawn off at school and the impressive displays of terrible driving they are capable of.

ZA drivers suck. Taxis lead the way but this does not exclude the rest.

I see they updated:

According to its data, South African commuters spend an average of 10 days, 4 hours, and 48 minutes behind the wheel of a car per year.

This is significantly higher than the global average of 8 days, 5 hours, and 53 minutes, and South Africa’s average is only slightly higher than India’s 10 days, 1 hour, and 55 minutes.

The part about enjoying a long commute is nonsese.

Agreed. The only thing I didnt take into the calculation is my leave days. But public holidays were already included. Even with those calculated in, I still drive over 20 days a year just in traffic. Le Sigh

"In South Africa, there are typically around 250 to 252 working days in a calendar year for a standard Monday-to-Friday, 5-day work week, after excluding weekends and approximately 12 public holidays."
