It’s also about not pissing money away.
Have you done a calc on how much rent you’ve paid? Don’t, nobody needs that kind of negativity on a Friday.
The Mrs and I are currently saving up towards a deposit. We can do £24k in a year, so we want to rent for 2 more years to have a bigger deposit. Likely want to buy a property in the £350k range.

That’s good going. We were able to do a lot of saving for the first two years as we had a small place with very low rent.
Downside is that it was not ideally located and cramped but allowed us to build some momentum which I’m grateful for.
Making some initial sacrifices was the right choice for us.

First week in our new home. And really enjoying owning a home again. The freedom to just do what you want and not worry about landlords and estate agents.

Getting a new combi boiler installed next week with a hive setup — because current system is gravity fed and decade old.

In another positive note; our estate agents were happy on how we left the old place and are returning our full deposit (over £3k) with no deductions. So that’s a very unexpected win!

Awesome. I’m very envious of you guys that were able to buy early into your move.
I like to think that we are financially prudent and it irks me to no end paying rent.

I rented for 5 years when I lived here before.

When I moved back to SA then, I kept going over how much I'd spent on rent and feeling ill. Swore never again.

I had a gravity few system. Im convinced it's a crime against humanity to have such low water pressure during a shower.

That was the 1st thing I replaced when I moved in lmao.

Pro tip - while the plumber is there spoil yourself with a water softener installed at the main water inlet

Water pressure in our flat is terrible when it comes to hot water. My sanity is saved by the power shower.

I would add that a water softener/ whole home filtration is bloody necessary if you live in an area with hard water. It will save your washing machine, dish washer, coffee machine, kettle and everything else in the long run. I am so used to drinking filtered water that in the odd occasion I have drunk unfiltered tap water I get bad stomach cramps.

Yeah it’s tough; we are very fortunate to have been able to do it. We also only needed 5% deposit which helped. If it was 10% - we’d still be saving now.

Yeah **** this gravity fed system. An old lady lived here for 25 years. No idea how she survived with it.

I’ll ask them about this the water softener. Thanks

Yeah I think our area has hard water. I’ll need to check. Where we stayed before was very hard water. The old dishwasher was always needing salt — a new concept to me!

Lucky.
This means that the water supply to your property contains very high levels (over 276ppm) of hard water minerals such as calcium and magnesium.

Yeah, my last place in Eastbourne was higher than that - 297ppm. Was a pain in the ass.

Yeah, thats what I am dealing with.
By using a Brita jug I have been able to ensure my kettle looks almost new, and my coffee machine has a Brita filter in it and I only use water from the Brita jug (so my coffee is always double filtered - LOL). Probably overkill but a new machine is £500 and I would rather keep my current one operating perfectly.

I feel your pain mate. We have an “American fridge freezer” with ice and water dispenser that’s plumbed in. I was changing the filter on that constantly.

I’m with Southern Water now and they say it’s 30ppm where I am so I think no need for additional filters.

oh that is lovely, you lucky bugger.

For any married man dealing with hard water, dont forget a good filter on the shower or else the Mrs hair loss will be higher than normal. Once I put a filter on the shower my Mrs has left far less strands of hair in the shower.
