    Saw this today...

Eish, one of the worst ones I have seen in a while. How's those splices just held together with insulation tape as the enclosure is too small. @Chris_Auc who is the FNO?

    Frogfoot Port Elizabeth

High chance Vuma and FF will share NLD paths - time will tell.

As for Link 2 - @Frogfoot Fibre you should rap your NLD provider over the knuckles hard! Running 110mm, black ribbed duct over bridges basically hanging in places is 1) probably not legit 2) asking for vandalism 3) probably not UV stable. How Sanral passed some of that on their bridges is beyond me

    Super Strange Issue

A factor could also be that the EEPC is negotiating at 100/100 on the ethernet layer to the ONT whereas your new routers are trying 1000/1000Mbps? Or one side could be stuck on 100, etc. Maybe try forcing 1G full duplex or 100Mbps full duplex on a routers wan port - its a long shot.

Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 4

Been there done that - the electricity/water guys are oblivious to FTTH. Having said that FNO's simply ignore their wayleave conditions, so the fibre is not where it is meant to be in many many cases.

    Vodacom roaming activation while abroad

Thanks all, resolved through call centre eventually @Pak Fa Fui not that easy when you already overseas and have limited connectivity

    The official Mikrotik router thread

Stupid scary, been going on for years - there is basically L2 between many subs. At least now some FNO's are doing MAC/ARP limits I believe.

    Vodacom roaming activation while abroad

Hi all, I am sure this had been asked before but maybe someone can help. A friend of mine is overseas and is desperate to activate roaming to get a OTP. What are the options - he has spent thousands holding for agents using is overseas number, getting dropped, etc. - basically out of options...

    Frogfoot Port Elizabeth

Been in this industry for a while. Probably the longest outage of an FNO I have seen at this scale. Makes one wonder why these FNO's don't adopt a simple LAC/LNS model, it seriously simplifies the core/redundancy options

    How to connect the cottage

One more thing, I already mentioned but will do again Watch out for attenuation, not high attenuation like we normally worried about but low attenuation. ie the cable run is so short you end up overloading the receiving optic which is built normally for 20km. If you mating APC to UPC you...

    How to connect the cottage

Just remember ideally though you want the LC/UPC (Blue) if you going to plug it directly into the optics without a patch cable. LC/APC (Green) has got a 8 degree slanted ferrule which can chip off if plugged into a LC/UPC connector which = bad APC generally more used for GPON where you want to...

I still say ... WISP's also need spectrum.

    How to connect the cottage

I would also use a patch cable to transition from LC/APC to LC/UPC - the optics generally don't take APC connectors. Also got to maybe plonk an attenuator inline here - such a short distances with 20km optics can cause issues

    Are teachers adequately paid?

Granted there are teachers who show very little interest, lax and get paid for not rocking up - that needs to stop asap - there are extremely badly runs schools and extremely well run schools, they are so polar opposite its scary to think they exist in the same country! - but saying teachers...
