    Quadcopter/Drone Thread

Thank you for this thorough analysis. The area in question is an open piece of parkland / veld next to Hartbeespoort Dam. The closest airports / airfields is Brits airfield, Lanseria Intl. or Wonderboom. I was not within 10km of any known airport / airfield. What these small aircraft pilots...

    Quadcopter/Drone Thread

Hi guys, Perhaps you'll have some advice for me. I read the SACAA regulations and always check if I'm in an area where it's legal to fly. Today, I had a problem with a (very) cocky private small plane owner. He flies over the parkland area where I fly my drone (very low) and does this...

The airports are open, do you plan to fly?

Back in Lockdown Level 2,3 and 4 you needed permission. All SA Embassies have resumed processing visas in Level 1 - even tourist visas... so as long as you have a valid temporary residence permit (visa), I don't see there being a problem. If they're letting tourists in, they should certainly...

The airports are open, do you plan to fly?

In this case, yes. Permanent residents have been allowed to return to South Africa since March - subject to the regulations. It hasn't changed.

The airports are open, do you plan to fly?

That makes a lot of sense if you are a tourist coming to South Africa, but refusing South Africans entry into their own country is a different story altogether. The United Nations state the following: "International human rights law provides that the right of States to decide who their...

The airports are open, do you plan to fly?

I don't think you should be worried with a temporary residence visa. It's a huge step above just a tourist visa and they're letting tourists come in... There are a lot of hoops to jump through, as I've outlined above, but they're the same for both tourists and citizens. While I mentioned South...

The airports are open, do you plan to fly?

They won't know that you deleted it. However, it's smart to keep it... it can't track you or listen in to conversations etc. It's not a government "spying" app like some conspiracy nuts claim. It works with Bluetooth and isn't more invasive than say, the calculator app on your phone. I used...

The airports are open, do you plan to fly?

No, they never asked me that. As SA citizens, we can travel to and from South Africa as we please (as long as we keep to the Covid regulations). The restrictions on "leisure travel" are only applicable to tourists who are not SA citizens.

The airports are open, do you plan to fly?

I was a passenger on one of the first commercial KLM flights back into South Africa on 01 October (when the borders opened). The following was what I experienced before, during and after this flight. If this sounds too restrictive to you, you're not going to travel for quite some time. The...

List of Known Fake News Sites in South Africa (and beyond)

I support your decision to blacklist him and I'm Afrikaans. Please know that we're not all that naive to fall for this guy's incoherent, false doomsday negativity. I loathe expats who go on blasting our country once they leave. In my opinion, if you left, you should STFU.

Are you back at the office today?

Funny, our estate security is on the prowl with their smartphone thingies reporting EVERYONE who so much as mows their lawns. The place looks like the bush by now. Gardeners also not even allowed inside.

Are you back at the office today?

No, but working from home. Have a permit to visit clients, though. Haven't been paid for March because none of our clients paid the company for March... We are working hard to get invoices out, however our clients have now been told that none of their work will be delivered if we are not paid -...

Do you support the government restriction on exercise?

I am so frustrated with these draconian, totalotarian, one-sided regulations that I'm having terrible thoughts on what should happen to our new 'overlords', especially the ghastly two: Bheki "Mad Hatter" Cele and Nkosozana "Evil Sangoma" Dlamini-Zuma. I wish it was as easy as in more primitive...

Biologists identify pathways that extend lifespan by 500%

That article measures exports in gross monetary value, not tonnage. Get this, peaches sell for roughly R 83.00 per kilogram (€2.50 per 500g, source) while they sell for just R 33.00 per kilogram at PicknPay - source. If South Africa used Euros, we'd also have a high export rate in gross monetary...

Biologists identify pathways that extend lifespan by 500%

    Bruh... you're embarrassing yourself. A billion is a thousand million - ie. 1 000 000 000. See the difference between 700 million (700 000 000) and 7 billion (7 000 000 000).

Biologists identify pathways that extend lifespan by 500%

My friend... why do you think we suddenly don't have enough water and electricity in SA? Because gov. has failed to adapt to a GROWING POPULATION - ie. HIGHER CONSUMPTION. How do you think we will manage in SA with a similar population as China, for example? It would be a bloody hellhole.

Biologists identify pathways that extend lifespan by 500%

Gawd no... that would be utter hell. Not enough of anything for anyone. We may be alive at that stage, but we'll decimate nature like never before and we'll all be poor with no way out! Besides, read this.

Biologists identify pathways that extend lifespan by 500%

Well, the earth's ecological carrying capacity for humans is a max. of 10 billion. We're 70% there. China and India accounts for 36% of the roughly 7.5 billion people on earth. So maybe we should just not allow them to get older? Very bad ethical headache coming up.

SA wonder plant removes more CO2 than Amazon

I bought 1 plant at our local nursery 2 years ago for 40 bucks. We now have so many planted and potted "clones" from cuttings that I don't know what to do with them anymore! Will start giving them away for birthdays and weddings soon.
