I was testing Telkom Mobile's APN pings using a vpn application called Radmin VPN, I tested both unrestricted APN as well as the restricted APN. I pinged the same person in the application using both APN's and discovered that the unrestricted APN has significantly higher latency (±70) than the...
I see..
Well I've tested it again; this time using Tailscale which only uses UDP afaik for establishing connections with other peers and it worked.
I guess UDP ports close faster than TCP ports when traffic stops running through them, but they do seem to be opening after all
I have attempted that with the above app as well as another port forwarding app and both have the same results (TCP ports can open but UDP ports seem to stay closed). Maybe it would only open if someone were to send UDP packets to me(?) Just was wondering if Telkom unrestricted apn blocks UDP...
It's an app that allows you to run a server from your phone among other things, and the options to set a port are in it. You set a port number in the app and then run the server and it should open the ports which you designated.
I'm currently using Telkom unrestricted apn and trying to open ports for UDP to no success. TCP ports open just fine but when I try to open UDP ports they seem to stay closed.
Am I doing anything wrong here? Has any one else had any problems opening trying to UDP ports on Telkom unrestricted APN?
Been having the same problem off/on for the past ±2 years until around December 2023. Signal would often be low randomly switching from LTE to HSDPA becoming really slow or sometimes connection would just drop completely. These signal problems only happened when I was at home. At another...
UPDATE: I know it may be a bit superfluous but I've decided to give another update .
So average signal strength for the Telkom Mobile Network has improved once again to being more or less consistently full. Its been good like this for at least a week now (haven't counted exactly how many days)...
Thanks for the tips they're much appreciated. I know so far that at least both Vodacom and MTN have no to very little signal problems where I'm at, so might go with one of those for data. This poor connection is really strange with Telkom as I've looked at coverage maps and it clearly shows that...
I believe not as its been consistently bad throughout the whole year for the past +2 years. And the poor reception seems to have returned again. This is really weird.
UPDATE: So for some reason, after having had the above mentioned bad reception since I bought this sim 2 or 3 years back, I've noticed the reception on full 4G for the first time.
Sometimes it still drops to about 2 bars on 4G but hardly drops to HSDPA mode now. Also I can finally stream videos...
Alright, well thanks for all your contributions; it seems there are mixed opinions as to whether its a scam or not, guess i'll err on the side of caution on this.

Received this message today, not sure if its fake or not.Im not aware of this website/email address and if its legitimately related to telkom or not or just another scam. Any insight would be appreciated.
Regards
Yeah you would probably get the same reception you'd have on a Vodacom and MTN network if you bought an all network bundle from Telkom mobile but it's more expensive than the Telkom only bundles.
