Google's Equiano subsea cable lands in South Africa

Liquid Telecom has got 1 fibre pair thus 12Tbps and WIOCC has got 1 fibre pair. Google will probably now fix their South African capacity problem. ie. Youtube and slow Google Drive.

Google's Equiano subsea cable lands in South Africa

Ok, after a bit of searching. Apparently the main cable trunk is connected to a buoy called the "Southern trunk tail marker buoy". Thus after the ship is finished in Melkbostrand it will cruise north west to the buoy to do the final splice between the Melkbosstrand branch and the main cable...

Google's Equiano subsea cable lands in South Africa

The ship the "ILE DE SEIN" is at this moment about 2km offshore from Melkbosstrand. So they are still busy with the landing. I'm wondering if this part, the landing, is just the landing branch to Melkbosstrand from the main Equiano cable. I'm wondering if the main cable has yet arrived in South...

I see that the cable laying ship "ILE DE SEIN", which landed Equiano in Namibia, is now close to Melkbosstrand doing subsea operations.... According to Marinetraffic.

Output load on Ultralan UPS MUPS60W17.6AH - Looking for comparisons

I see on the PCB there is a UART port. Has anyone tried connecting it up and reading it ? Would be nice if we could fetch UPS status info from there.

Issues here in Northern PTA still not completely solved. We at least have connectivity now, but latency is bad and DL/UL is slow on a 500/500. But I see the notices are still up and I assume they are still busy fixing.

Yes, I'm also in PTA-North area and also experiencing an intermittent connection. I know of another Metrofibre client a few blocks from me with exactly the same problem. The Afrihost website has got a notice on as well as Metrofibres own website.

Port Forwarding on a Supposedly Static and non-CGNAT IP

Also make sure the given static IP is what your router says it is using.

Port Forwarding on a Supposedly Static and non-CGNAT IP

So your problem is then with the setup on your router. Something wrong with the port forwarding. The port on the outside forwarded to a port on the inside on an internal (private) ip. Something wrong there.

Port Forwarding on a Supposedly Static and non-CGNAT IP

Try using an online service that gives you your ip. Then compare that to your given static public ip. Try whatsmyip as searchterm in the google search bar.

Anyone else in Pretoria North area down right now? Like in red Loss of Signal. I know it is not only me, because people up die street and around the corner also went down at the same time. So probably an area outage, but don't see any notices anywhere.

Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread

I'm also using the UltraLan Micro UPS. Easily lasts through load shedding and charges quickly. I'm on Metrofibre FNO and it has so far always stayed up during loadshedding.

So confused with which fibre ISP to go with..

Can't go wrong with Afrihost or Cool Ideas. My preference would be Afrihost since I have had great service from day one. @AfriNatic gives awesome support here. Also gives great feedback on any network issues like the Youtube/Google saga.

No, what I mean is the AH ClientZone portal used to show 200/200 and now shows 500/500. So when I get home I'm going to do speed tests. Now that I have done those tests, unfortunately my speed tests still shows 197/195 which is roughly what it was. Not sure if the upgrade was fully completed...
