    RPI is a good start, old pc can also work. You can start by searching YouTube; there are many helpful vids to get started. Have a look at the more recent ones (last 12 months or so) - the HA layout has changed over the years and searching for menus, etc. can be off-putting.

    That's a scary situation to be in. We've installed a smoke detector and a lithium battery extinguisher for some peace of mind. Using a bit of tech to back this up seems like a good idea.
