    Afrihost Mobile Feedback

Hey @Afrigirl. I’m on Air Mobile with my iPhone 15 and eSIM. My cell connection goes to 3G pretty much all the time when I’m in a building (at work in Bryanston and at home in Illovo). But I know there is LTE/5G available in the work building because colleagues on MTN are on LTE/5G. To get it...

    Discovery Bank

I've tried searching the forum but couldn't find the answer. Can anyone tell me the story with Discovery Bank's foreign transaction fees are when you swipe with the credit card? - I see they say it is a 3% conversion fee when swiping non-ZAR - Then there is a 2% fee when swiping in ZAR to a...

    Afrihost Mobile Feedback

Thank you! I did need to take the leap of faith and delete the eSIM from my old phone, then re-add to my new phone. I did not need a new activation code, which was nice - the same one worked. When I tried to scan the QR code with the iPhone 15, I got a generic error “could not activate eSIM...

    Afrihost Mobile Feedback

@AfriNatic @Afrigirl I've just purchased a new iPhone 15 but having difficulty transferring my AirMobile eSIM from my old iPhone 13 to my new iPhone 15. I have tried scanning the QR code on the new iPhone while the eSIM is active in the old one. This failed. Then I tried turning off the eSIM in...

Afrihost Air Mobile customers have been overcharged by 50%+ for months!

10GB via afrihost + 380 all net mins (voice bundle purchased via the MTN app) = R300. Not quite as good as superflex but you can’t port to superflex so quite a good option!

Afrihost Air Mobile customers have been overcharged by 50%+ for months!

I also noticed this. The rate is now R1.50/min is seems. I was on the MTN Talk Free plan. Months ago, the MTN Talk Free rate was changed to be R1.20/min to all networks with no warning whatsoever (previously was R0.99/min). I phoned afrihost to tell them that the website was showing the wrong...

Vodacom expanding eSIM support next week

iPhone 13 and later allows you to have 2 eSIMs active. Anything before the 13 has to be one physical SIM and one eSIM (I.E. cannot be two eSIMs simultaneously on iPhone 12 or earlier)

    MTN and WiFi Calling

Anyone else get a notification that WiFi calling is available on MTN for an iPhone today/recently? I did and went into settings, lo and behold the WiFi calling option is finally there!

    nedbank money app push notifications

I have no trouble with my notifications at the moment. Although push notifications only work for cheque accounts - credit cards can only receive SMS notifications at this point. Sadly.

    Afrihost Mobile Feedback

After days of fiddling and driving around JHB to get 5G signal to no avail, I randomly inserted an active Vodacom SIM card into my phone, let it set up, then took it out and put my MTN SIM back into the phone and presto! 5G connected! Very stoked. Too scared to do a Speedtest though because it...

    Afrihost Mobile Feedback

No luck with this where I currently stay. But to be sure it isn’t my area I will force it on and see what happens when I move around JHB this week. The most important thing is knowing that it is possible on Afrihost mobile.

    Afrihost Mobile Feedback

Settings > mobile data > mobile data options > Voice & Data gives me this. Seems that I do have the 5G option (even if I force 5G to be on, I still don’t connect)

    Afrihost Mobile Feedback

Thanks @AfriNatic. I have a normal LTE SIM card that I’ve been using for over 6 years now. I went to Settings > General > About but there was no carrier update that popped up (it says I am on MTN 48.0). I don’t know how to force a carrier update or if this is the latest version for iPhone 13...

    Afrihost Mobile Feedback

Quick question - I’m on air mobile prepaid and just upgraded to the new iPhone 13. Will the MTN sim and afrihost APN connect to MTN’s 5G network? (According to MTN’s maps, I’m smack bang in the middle of a 5G area in Rosebank/Hyde Park, JHB). Does anyone know?

Buying tech from Takealot vs importing from Amazon price comparison

Just a note that you can select the option to pay the purchase price in ZAR not USD and then you save the 2%-2.75% transaction fee from your local South African bank. Amazon shows the conversion rate they're giving you and it is substantially on par with what you will get from a bank.

    South Africa's banking apps rated

How about reviving this thread 2 years later and seeing how things have changed? My view regarding the iOS apps: - Standard Bank: interface improved from yesteryear but still sending OTPs for online transactions - FNB: lots of functionality but UI is clunky (looks like it was designed by a...

Best SA bank while temporarily overseas?

Thanks for all the info everyone! I appreciate it. Sounds to me like ABSA/FNB/Investec are the best options, which is good because they all support Apple Pay (FNB admittedly embarrassingly late). For peace of mind, Investec sounds best but I've always been one to turn my nose up to their high...

Best SA bank while temporarily overseas?

Any suggestions on the best SA bank for if you need a SA bank account but are also going overseas for 3-6 months at a time? I will be heading overseas soon but still need to keep my SA bank account for salary payments to go into and out of. I'll be overseas for 3-6 months and will be getting a...
