    Thing is it shouldn't be used for those even if not load shedding, Maybe wire up a 6 or 10 amp trip switch on those plugs on the DB (the fridge will have to be on its own one though) - that way it will trip if they try and use a kettle (think a kettle pull in the range of 10-13 amps)

    A "dumb" timer is really not worth it IMHO - you need something to monitor and show temps - and allow for manual and time based switching on of the back up element, from personal experience this helps (especially knowing the temp) a lot in increasing your savings overall.
