Smart outdoor security cameras in SA?

It claims to have some AI functions but honestly I havent looked at those much, I will take a dig into that this evening to see. It does have the ability to draw a free form shape for motion detection etc though. I use it to isolate some trees that move a lot from detection. What I really like...

The new way TV shows are being pirated in South Africa

The lack of Roku app was what forced me to give up on DSTV many years ago. Sadly it seems as awesome as the Roku is, it would never be considered for development by a smaller company like Multichoice.

Oppo smartphones land in South Africa

Yup, Oppo make good high end phones, Im not so sure about their lower models though. OnePlus is also top notch equipment, I would buy one of their phones before I bought a Samsung.

Home Brewing / Micro Brewery / My own beer

Yup, I forgot some packets of yeast in a box in my garage that had come with an order. They stayed there for a few months before I noticed, I had no issues with the fermentation after using them. Liquid yeast is a different story, but dry yeast doesnt seem to care.

Home Assistant : Q&A, Tips & Tricks, Your Configs

I used to get a lot of those random issues and most were down to the memory card. It always required a power cycle to get it working again.

Home Assistant : Q&A, Tips & Tricks, Your Configs

Running mine under Hyper-V on my old laptop, with its SSD it loads up super fast. Im not sure if its different on the Pi4 but the 3B+ wasnt able to run the VSCode addon which I use quite a lot and was the motivation to move to a virtualized host.

Not such a great move to Absolute Hosting

As Rusty mentioned, just slap it into Azure if MS hosting is a requirement. Im sure most hosting companies are moving away from Windows hosting because its a pain to maintain compared to Linux servers.

Vodacom and MTN location-based data linked to assassination scandal

Yup, the WASP abuse is allowed to continue because it generates a lot of revenue. The networks, regardless of what they tell you, are happy to let WASP's steal your money because they get a cut. The big question is definitely a big question, it would be interesting to know what all they can see...

    How Eskom really operates

Got to give all of those comrades high paying jobs somewhere, lets make more committees and advisory groups. Im sure De Ruyter could actually do it himself if there wasnt so much meddling from government, unions and everyone else who wants a say in things.

^This is the answer, no need to look at anything else. Mesh systems are not great, cabling to unifi is the most stable method.

British Airways gets fined R430 million for data breach

Yup, the BA leak can be used more directly for fraud. The Experian one though is already proving to be a goldmine for identity theft and other fraudulent activities.

British Airways gets fined R430 million for data breach

my thoughts exactly, sure EU have GDPR and its in enforceable effect but that was only 400k records, a far cry from the number Experian just handed over.

Apple will remove earphones and chargers from older iPhone boxes - Report

That is interesting, so is the lightning cable that ships with new iphones a lightning to usb-c cable? That would be a problem for a lot of people Im sure. My wife's iPhone 11 that she got 3 months ago had a usb-a to lightning cable in. You raise a great point though, Im so disappointed in...

Apple will remove earphones and chargers from older iPhone boxes - Report

I think if it really made a worthwhile reduction in the price like Apple claim it did, then its worth removing them. Honestly after using the headphones that come with phones I just left them in the box from new. I have used a wireless charger since my Nokia with WindowsMobile days, if a phone...
