Students die from cough syrup 'drinks'

That's also stupid, but not the same. Benadryl is for allergies and its active ingredient is Diphenhydramine. The active ingredient in the cough mixture they were looking for is Codeine.... Opium. Combining it with alcohol is doubling up on "downers", they both suppress the nervous system...

Mmusi Maimane | Open letter to white South Africans

A dead economy ultimately. The cycle of government waste and radical/incorrect policy (short term bandaids), resulting in increased taxes stifling the economy, resulting in less jobs and taxpayers, resulting in increased taxes and more radical policy etc. etc. It's a death by a thousand cuts...

Wife getting divorced wants R5600 extra maintenance to pay for dogs

I can't say that modern marriage is a good deal. In fact, I would go say far as to say I recommend not getting married. You can never know if your future holds a life ruining divorce. That said, absolutely nothing wrong with committing to and bonding with someone for life, just avoid getting...

Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread

And it’s back. It seems like Openserve is botching their maintenance, there should be no unannounced downtime.

Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread

May as well just post this here. Looks like there is a complete Openserve outage in at least CPT, it hit at 00:00. Other ISP threads are reporting the same so it is not ISP related.

Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 3

Just chiming in to say Openserve Cape Town is dead on Afrihost as well. This looks like a major Openserve outage. Given that it hit exactly at midnight, they probably botched some maintenance.

Power cuts will soon be a thing of the past, says David Mabuza

The only chance SA has of reliable power is government dropping it's involvement in Eskom and IPP on-boarding being fast tracked. That or Eskom being gradually liquidated. The power problems are solvable, they can even be solved very quickly (1-2 years) and substantial improvements to cost and...

I think this is the second time I've seen the Karin meme being misused, or has it just morphed into "women losing it"?

Ban on alcohol and cigarettes in South Africa

Some very disappointing news. I vape but I've absolutely stretched out the last juice I have hoping for sanity to eventually prevail in the courts. The last bit I have is some really dodgy Chinese knock off fluid that tastes god awful. I've just been "sipping" on it to nurse the craving. Shady...

Ban on alcohol and cigarettes in South Africa

Nobody I personally know has quit smoking. A change in brand/quality and spending on smoking but it seems everyone now knows someone who has a cigarette supply.

Victory: Dlamini-Zuma’s forced quarantine regulations scrapped

Nobody in politics has pure motives. By far the biggest motives are wealth and power. Now if they happen to do good (jobs, economy, safety, average quality of life etc.) while getting wealthy fair enough, but they didn't do it for "pure" reasons.

President to address the nation on Sunday 24 May 2020

The ANC's past corruption has all had very indirect (but serious) consequences for the average voter. This time however, they've mistreated people very directly. All we can hope is that if there are still democratic elections, that people remember how they were treated by the ANC. There are at...

Lockdown fallout: Mkhize defends strategy as scientists are reprimanded for speaking out

Reminds me of the Soviet Union’s treatment of scientists during the Chernobyl disaster. “You are only here for one job, only do that job. Do not advise or give your opinion on other related matters. Do not speak to anyone. Do not disagree with or question the party. The number one priority...

No pay cuts at Takealot despite lockdown

I think Takealot might be in for a big shock when they are allowed to sell everything again. Sales will still be down dramatically, as people won't have enough money to buy luxuries while they try recover their financial situation.

Do you think all ecommerce should be opened?

If your allowed to sell your full inventory online and you announce it to clients, you will probably see an increase in online sales. I'm not suggesting it will completely close that gap, but it's better than nothing.
