Howzit. Recently ported from MTN to Vodacom and iMessage just won’t activate. No beta software no funnies. Is anyone else still having issues?

MTN status on eSIM, VoLTE (iPhone) and WifiCalling

Must’ve been corrected on 1.1.1.1 but I also switched from CellC a year ago. Point I’m trying to make is that it could be a DNS issue, was just using my experience as an example.

MTN status on eSIM, VoLTE (iPhone) and WifiCalling

One thing I just remember on this topic. While I was on CellC using WiFi calling, I tried switching to 1.1.1.1 for DNS privacy (away from 8.8.8.8). As soon as I did that CellC WiFi calling stopped working. I wonder if these different ISPs aren’t pointing to a DNS issue. The phone should be...

Passively optimistic. Just updated to iOS 14 and the network provider has been updated to 42.0.

MTN status on eSIM, VoLTE (iPhone) and WifiCalling

I’ve done some digging/reading and it seems with iOS there will be something needed from Apple. In the entire Africa, only CellC and Vodacom are listed as supporting WiFi calling. I have a feeling this may have to come with an iOS update in conjunction with certification from Apple...

MTN status on eSIM, VoLTE (iPhone) and WifiCalling

I think you highlighted the primary benefit in point 1. Unless you roam a lot, where you will save on those charges. WiFi calling (when connected from abroad) would make a local call as opposed to a roaming call. You would still use your minutes and sms’ but it would use your internet that is...

Same question here. Keep checking for carrier updates but nothing. Still on 41 myself.

MTN status on eSIM, VoLTE (iPhone) and WifiCalling

Do there have to be any router/ISP changes? As far as I’ve read the phone initiates the IKEv2 tunnel which should work on pretty much any standard internet connected router (unless the FW is fiddled with).

MTN status on eSIM, VoLTE (iPhone) and WifiCalling

With the load shedding I really wish they would make this Generally available. The towers in my area are absent when eskom cuts. I keep WiFi and fibre up so technically I wouldn’t have the reception issues I’m facing right now.

MTN status on eSIM, VoLTE (iPhone) and WifiCalling

On a separate topic, I see MTN has released a new app for iOS and Android. I’m on the US store for Apple, and if someone here works for MTN, please could I request they they publish the app as globally available. Can’t download it currently.

Very cool. CellC’s unreliability is the reason I switched to MTN.

Interesting. I don’t have it available on my iOS device yet. Thanks for the update.

I’m assuming you’re on an mtn trial? If that’s the case, really good to hear. Found a page about a month ago while googling titled “How to configure WiFi calling”. Unfortunately that turned out to be a dead link on mtn.co.za.
