As others have stated, a Cell C shop will sort it out. Two & a half months ago I loaded a 100GB bundle (after converting R199 airtime on a phone), and the SIM died immediately (red light on router) ; thought I'd lost R199 outright. A Cell C outlet loaded the entire bundle to a new SIM, for a...

    DSTV and Ubuntu problem

Maybe try it on a "Live CD" version (on a USB stick) of a derivative such as Linux Mint which is also on 20.04 LTS, or the LMDE version, or even Peppermint OS which is still on the 18.04 LTS base. With Peppermint at least, if it works, you'll know that changes from 18.04 to 20.04 has something...

Think you meant to reply to @NoLuck Chuck instead of me ? ... as he's the one looking to change, not me. No harm. But by the sounds of it, I don't think he's after signing up with Telkom directly / entering into any contract directly with them (just like myself), but he'd have to confirm that fact.

Just be somewhat careful with them ; easy to sign up, but there are complaints these days about trying to cancel products. Have a look at the various threads in the forum to do with them, and complaints about MWeb. I'd personally stick to Axxess & Afrihost.

    Telkom prepaid LTE

I'd seriously check that it works - if for work - long (enough) before leaving to go away.

As it so happens, on this Home Connecta Flexi package, they only allow for 4G / LTE / LTE-A (If that's even possible!) - it's point # 11 in their T's & C's PDF one can d/load from their website. As there's no 3G fallback, as I call it, it's ironic then that their staff is using an excuse for...

    Telkom prepaid LTE

Yes, I've just double-checked on an Android phone using the "VPN Free" app., through Germany. Can provide screenshots if you like, but I can't prove it was Telkom as it was via wi-fi so the SIM's in the router. In the relatively recent past (maybe 4 - 6 months ago ?), I used Proton VPN on a...

Pity about Cell C for you. It could have something to do with MTN's towers, and may be a temp. problem relating to switch-over : https://mybroadband.co.za/news/cellular/402959-cell-c-prepaid-subscribers-migrating-to-mtn-in-five-more-provinces.html I had a similar problem late last year when...

Netflix mobile data usage - MTN vs Vodacom

What resolution does that give you - 360p / 480p - because I don't see that mentioned anywhere in the article ?

I'm considering fibre but still think the base packages are too expensive, in relation to the amount of data we consume on LTE. Already have a fibre line running into the house, but the cheapest I can get it is R497 on Frogfoot via Afrihost for a 30 / 3 speed. I like the idea of uncapped...

The only options under R500 pm (if that's still affordable) I know of, are from Rain. Their uncapped for 18 hrs / day for R249, and this one : https://mybroadband.co.za/news/cellular/342975-new-rain-uncapped-4g-sim-10mbps-for-r479-per-month.html You'd need to get a SIM from them to check...

    Telkom prepaid LTE

Have just done some speedtests, pasted below. Certainly don't want to make excuses for them, because usually do considerably better on downloads, but it is cloudy this evening & probably weekend congestion also a factor (weekdays usually better d/load speeds). 1800 ("B3 only" setting in router)...

Please do a MyBroadband speed test on Rain

Can I just confirm something @rain_mobile , taking into account your latest PM. I wouldn't see the point in continuing to use this at these speeds, for the entire 1GB, if nothing more can be done. When I log back into my account details, I get : billing for .... Peak September bill so far...

Please do a MyBroadband speed test on Rain

Thanks for trying, @rain_mobile , but as you can see from the result it's no better (apart from the ping), even though being routed to CPT : https://speedtest.co.za/result/5044113 ISP: rain Ping: 39ms Download: 1.92Mbps Upload: 1.12Mbps Will have to stick with what I have, which isn't bad at...

Please do a MyBroadband speed test on Rain

Have sent it now, with additional message incl. that I'll re-insert the SIM & switch the router on for any testing you may want / need to do. EDIT : Router's back on in original position (ie. where I got the better of the 2 speedtests), with the Rain SIM in it.

Please do a MyBroadband speed test on Rain

OMG @rain_mobile - was hoping for better than the following, since activating a 1GB / R50 package earlier on this afternoon : https://speedtest.co.za/result/5043725 ISP: rain Ping: 64ms Download: 3.93Mbps Upload: 1.6Mbps -- This taken after I moved the router to where I thought it would be...

    Telkom prepaid LTE

I don't think it's that restrictive. In the past, I've easily been able to switch between 1800 & 2300 on Smart BB LTE packages, in particular the original 500GB for R149, which became 450GB for the same price, then 100GB .... on a B525 router, which happens to be 65a. Don't know if that's a...

It doesn't relate to my cell # alone, but to the product as a whole on offer, from which all can benefit getting additional info. on. This is the link to the post I'm referring to, in case you're unsure : https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/home-connecta-flexi.1130651/post-27946074

    Telkom prepaid LTE

It really is that simple ... as long as you have Telkom LTE signal / reception in your area, that is. Telkom shops usually RICA them for free (ie. no need to pay for a SIM from them) ; used to be the case, but don't know if it's still the same.

@Gudnews - from some brief testing I've done recently on prepaid (ie. downloads of mp3's / mp4's / YouTube vids. from within the YT app., which all consume data quickly), I can confirm that between 12 midnight & 1am, data is deducted from the "LTE Power Plan" (otherwise known as "Anytime data"...
