AMD unveils new Ryzen 5000 processor with built-in graphics

That’s ... a substantial portion of the market. Intel’s market share is dropping but as pointed out earlier they are still miles ahead of AMD. I don‘t think that they are out of the woods though. I remember seeing a cover of Forbes I think from about 2007 where the headline was “Who can keep...

    Bajaj Qute

I had a Bajaj motorbike while I was a student. Definitely not as refined as a Honda or Kawasaki but for the money it was really decent. Don't know if I would bother with one of these, especially not new. @6spdmanual I'm one of the people who prefers to drive cheap cars and bash BMWs ;) but I...

AMD unveils new Ryzen 5000 processor with built-in graphics

In certain sectors yes. But they won't necessarily look like M1s. Nvidia have some cool stuff in the works which is basically GPUs with some ARM cores on the same package, which looks interesting.

When to be forthcoming about criminal record

So I just listened to this podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/za/podcast/worklife-with-adam-grant/id1346314086?i=1000515923769 They talk about ex-convicts trying to re-enter society. It was quite interesting.

    Buying property with partner

In my case, it was probably poor practice, but we don't have anything formal in place, just verbal agreements. It was my first property, I didn't have much of a credit record so Dad came on board and effectively "signed surety", even though I was paying for it at the time. Since then, he's...

    Buying property with partner

To answer the original question, sure it is possible. I own a property jointly with my dad, fwiw. Definitely not married to him...

Why is Google suddenly asking for your Birthday?

A time traveller! Did you go to Stephen Hawking’s party?

Why is Google suddenly asking for your Birthday?

Probably something about confirming that you're above a certain age, rules about internet services for children etc. Google has known my birthday since I got my Gmail address back in 2006. So I'm not sure if there's been a change.

    Giving Google the middle finger

I use only ProtonMail (paid), I don’t bundle with the vpn. I did use it briefly while travelling a while ago when I didn’t trust the WiFi. Speeds were great but YMMV.

    Giving Google the middle finger

What is your threat model that you need a VPN? I have always thought they don't add much value if you're at home. I use DDG daily, I think it works great. Except for super-local stuff like "where can I buy <some product>". Google does best with that. Most of DDG's results come from Bing already...

    Giving Google the middle finger

Google Authenticator is nothing special. The app just generates an OTP based on a fixed string and the current time. Authy will give you the exact same results - it implements the same standard. The functionality is also built into some password managers like Bitwarden which is what I use.

    Atomic Access Feedback

Doesn't everyone on Telegram that has my number get a "newby_investor is now on Telegram! Say hi!" message?

    Atomic Access Feedback

Thanks gents, you can ignore my frantic support email then ;-) Edit: just to say thank you for the phone-call and personal follow-up. 10/10 for customer service.

    Atomic Access Feedback

Yeah. Was just about to try and figure out some workaround with mobile data when the internet came back, thankfully. I need to see about getting on that Telegram group. I just don't want to use my regular number, and I don't have an alternate one handy...

    Atomic Access Feedback

Eish. So that's why my internet is down. Was this in the Telegram group? Not being on any of these instant messenger platforms is starting to affect my receiving of support messages!

Switching from Android to Apple - What made you switch?

So after being exclusively an Android user, (mostly for economic reasons though, I have no ideological skin in the game - Androids are often cheaper than iDevices), I got myself an iPad on Carbonite the other day. I wanted a basic tablet that wasn't complete crap, and cheap android ones are...

Buying a car with a balloon payment – What you need to know

You can, and effectively make your 72-month loan into a longer one. Crappy situation to be in but it must be done sometimes.

Buying a car with a balloon payment – What you need to know

As pointed out previously, you take a "balloon" payment if you don't plan to keep the car for the full term of the loan. It makes the monthly payments lower. It works especially well with brands like BMW that have guaranteed buyback schemes after 3-4 years. In these cases, paying the absolute...

NEW - ONE-DAY Giveaway - R1,000 up for grabs for one lucky winner

I'm going to be a nay-sayer and suggest that personal loans are very seldom a good idea. Especially not when they're up to R300k. Short-term convenience will be paid for in the long-term with the power of compound interest.
