How much drivers tip petrol attendants in South Africa

According to the article in OP, "Minimum wage data from 1 September shows that attendants earn around R36.10 per hour or R1,624.50 per week." I wonder how anyone manages to live on that.

Nigerian-born man cannot benefit from BEE Act, commission finds

and then one day there was a large, bouncy balloon that bobbed along in the breeze and the birds swooped and made everyone happy and the farmers scraped up handfuls of earth and ground it between thumb and finger looking joyfully up beyond the balloon because the rain would soon be here

SA mom a suspect in killing of 3 children in New Zealand

Some perpetrators, so I have read, gloat in what they have done and wear their wickedness as a badge of boasting and false glory. This doesn't seem to be one of those fabled cases. Those people I've ever spoken to, who perpetrated truly dreadful crimes, have been filled with regret at the...

NICD data shows HIV to be the most common underlying cause of death in South African adolescents

Oh, yes, please! Permanently. No loud music would make dining out so very much better.

Bad news for South African travellers – UK ‘red list’ travel ban stays in place

Are you sure of this? When I searched quarantine government hotels results of similar schemes came up from a number of different countries. Or am I missing something?

Nigerian-born man cannot benefit from BEE Act, commission finds

Only just saw your questions, now. Though annoyed, he did't pursue the matter, as in going up the ranks to complain, or taking any legal steps, or in any similar way, because someone else (also in S.A.) offered him a much more responsible post at a significantly higher salary, so he shook the...

Nigerian-born man cannot benefit from BEE Act, commission finds

A friend of mine, a South African Indian, was invited to apply for a lectureship at a university, which he did. It was to work on a research project which was about specifically South African topics and circumstances. When he was turned down, he was told that it was because ob BEE. He argued...

SA mom a suspect in killing of 3 children in New Zealand

And yet, in this very thread - while it was already known that this particular perpetrator was relatively well-off, both she and her husband having had the privilege of education, and, for what it's worth, white - there were calls for a death sentence for her.

    Vasectomy - NOT!!!!

@Caldo, I admire your attitude towards your wife: not immediately accusing her of unfaithfulness, and you've respected the integrity of her body. And I like the way you've owned this matter, stating your own reasons, your own decisions, what you did and did not do. And now, you're trying to...

JUST IN | Arthur Fraser admits board did not approve medical parole for Zuma

I wonder whether Jacob Zuma imagines that this text will succeed in making his point clearly, the way he wants it made, to those who can vote.

Bad news for South African travellers – UK ‘red list’ travel ban stays in place

To see the costs of the mandatory quarantine hotel, (for those who have resident rights in the UK, or are British or Irish - no entry for anyone else from a red list country, anyway), and feel the tears sting, scroll down to "How to book a quarantine package" and "How much you'll need to pay"...

    Are you thinking of emigrating?

This sounds like you're confusing "passport" (the little booklet that allows you to cross borders) and "citizenship" (nationalitly). In most countries, only citizens (those who already hold citizenship) are eligible to obtain a passport of the country. Therefore, the steps are: first...

SA mom a suspect in killing of 3 children in New Zealand

I'd be asking, amongst other questions, how long the interval was between the man's leaving work, and when his neighbour heard him crying and came over to see what was wrong. Or has the children's mother actually admitted to doing the deed, so that their father is not under investigation?

SA mom a suspect in killing of 3 children in New Zealand

Maria Mandy Sibanyoni must be devastated. She'd have cared for the twins since birth, and had already had to bid them all good-bye when they left to NZ. I feel for her, after a farewell, and now this.

SA mom a suspect in killing of 3 children in New Zealand

My guess is that that dad very likely needs - more than anything - some sleep. Probably not easy to get, right now. And, yes, compassion. As to how the law works: in New Zealand the death penalty for murder was abolished in 1961...

NICD data shows HIV to be the most common underlying cause of death in South African adolescents

That seems to be a rather misleading thread title. Or in any case it seems to imply something rather different from what the opening post sets out, namely not the deaths of adolescents, overally, but of those adolescents who contracted Covid-19. Does anyone have a link for the ranking of...

Makro is trying to rip off our people

That's an interesting list. As others have pointed out, the prices in the US are quoted before VAT, which makes quite a difference. It's a pity this list doesn't reflect whether the other country's prices are quoted including or excluding any add-on sales taxes.
