Which sounds better?
He stole less than R5 million. or He stole over R4.8 million.

Both ways, he's still a fcuking criminal!

Is that not a tired argument though? there are people who get three years for fraud and there are people who get life for rape or murder.

I'm all for punishing fraudsters, but sending someone to jail for 20 years does not seem appropriate or fair for a crime that didn't involve any violence.

I missed reading this. He is getting paid for what?
The article states he pocketed the R5million
he was a remorseful first offender, and wanted to pay back the money
...
The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) has upheld a 20-year prison sentence for a fraudster who was a first offender and stole R4.9 million in total – which he offered to pay back.
Nowhere does it state he paid back the money, just that he made an offer to pay back the money instead of getting jail time. The money stays his if he hid is somewhere or gave it to family members for safe keeping or laundered it.

ok - got you. Wishful thinking is maybe there is another lawsuit by SETA to claim back money.

What's this "offer to pay back the money" thing? They should add 10 years to the sentence if he doesn't pay it back.
