Yeah man. The talking heads are saying this and that, even while they still live in Jacob Zuma land. They need to revisit, and where possible undo, what that guy did during this 20 year saga. Most of it designed to weaken the country's capacity to counter crime and corruption. All to keep himself out of court and jail.

The Police are powerless because they are under resourced, perhaps poorly trained in this regard, and also have their hands tied behind their backs.
The public at large knows this when protesting in mass groups. It has been learned over almost 2 decades of violent and destructive protests without any sanction.
Just don't let mom take a kid to the beach during lockdown to play in the sand cause you will be manhandled.

Marikana caused a stutter in revolutionary circles, and one gets the impression that that same outcome was what was sought during this last week by whomever was behind this.
In my opinion there was definitely a part of the Police that was in support of the looting.

Police stations on high alert following intelligence that 'instigators' may attack

Police stations across the country, especially those with arms storage facilities, have been placed on high alert following intelligence that "instigators" may be planning to attack, with the intention of stealing guns, ammunition and other weapons.

News24 can reveal that, on Sunday, as the country was beginning to count the cost and extent of the damage in the wake of last week's looting and unrest which swept across Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, police top brass warned police stations to step up their security.

The warning followed intelligence that people suspected of instigating and triggering the unrest, which claimed more than 270 lives, may be planning to disarm police stations across KwaZulu-Natal.

When are they arresting these kinds of 'instigators', it is conspiracy to commit <crime> is it not?

Alleged riots instigator Ngizwe Mchunu could face additional charges, says NPA

...

Advocate Mthunzi Mhaga, special director of public prosecutions in National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Shamila Batohi’s office, said the NPA has accessed the video that was recorded during one of the public addresses by Mchunu and used the services of a Zulu translator.

”We are convinced that the words that he used amount to the commission of an offence of incitement to commit public violence,” said Mhaga.

He said the evidence that has been collected is sufficient to prove when the prosecution proceeds an offence of incitement to commit public violence.

”That is the only charge that he is facing but we are analysing the evidence, the video recordings and we are conducting further investigations with the possibility of adding other charges,” Mhaga said.

...

At the height of the violence on Sunday, July 11 Mchunu hosted a #FreeJacobZuma address to the nation from KwaMai-Mai in Johannesburg.

Mhaga said law enforcement agencies were at an advanced stage in respect of a number of alleged instigators but by yesterday they had arrested about six and four of them including Mchunu have appeared in court.

”In terms of masterminding it, I am not able to comment at this stage because there is a wide range of investigations that are conducted which might lead to more charges being added,” he said.

Beyond that aspect.

Surely if they have intelligence or a suspicion that police stations with decent sized weapons stores are a target, that those places should get a beefed up complement and orders of shoot to kill? Given the direct impact that could flow from having those weapons stores looted.

There are still so many questions surrounding the ammunition which was stolen during the riots, a container which was under police protection...

Are they simply ignorant of what has happened over the last two decades and essentially cheering for their team? Or are they knowingly supportive of the last two decades?

Neither is very impressive.

Edit: Oh... I see at the end it is mentioned that they don't care. Urgh...

Tribalism and the shared vision of a corrupt country where everyone is allowed to loot without hindrance.

For some yes...

For many others they've bought into the lie that he's there for them, and will better their lives. Even though all evidence over the last 10 years is entirely to the contrary of that.
