Idiot. So, graduates who are still struggling to pay for their own education should pay for other peoples education. Another reason for professionals to leave the country. Brilliant.

So introduce a tax to a group of people already being crushed with income tax and student debt, just so our already bloated cabinet with its bloated salaries don't have to take a cut.

The idiot(s) who propose this should play Democracy 3 to see what a graduate tax does.

I think the idea is that they WOULDN'T have student debt.

I guess this is kinda like the UK model - interest free loan until you earn a certain amount, at which point you start paying back...
Not a bad idea.

No, not a tax to pay back your own fees, but to pay for others. What about me that paid for all my studies with the help of my parents and with student loans. Must I now be taxed to pay for a bunch of freeloaders?

“Irrespective of when they studied, employed graduates should make some contribution to the fees of those coming after them,” Bawa said.

There are many scholarship and government loan options available, the problem with then is that it involves WORK. I say screw the people that just want everything for free.

I am all for a loan for anyone with merit, but without merit just dumaanding free housing/education/work/cars/whatever is just stupid.

We pay to much taxes as it is. This proposal is not rooted in any form of reality. Those graduates that don't have jobs, how do they pay? Those that left SA, they scored big time??

I propose we remove stupid people from CEO positions.

Is that not exactly like an NSFAS loan works in SA?

I paid for my own studies when my parents couldn't pay for it, due to a divorce.
I struggled but it's paid off now. I never received any help from anyone.
This just makes me want to leave the country even more.

Relax about leaving the country, it's just a proposal.

Psychology 101: What you get for free is as valuable as the paper it's written on. With this approach, over time, the value of education approaches zero.
