No, it only requires a majority of votes to put them into power, not 100%. When you vote you are not only voting for a party, you are also voting that whoever gets the most votes becomes the government

So your answer is to sit back, do nothing and just complain about what is happening?

I don't care, the fact that a dumb herd voted dumbly does not mean that I agree with it. I made the effort to get off my ass and will certainly bitch about it if I please...

Rather it should be, if you do not pay tax you cannot complain, if I pay your salary I will complain if you do not do your job.

Those who don’t vote have no say and can’t complain about not getting services from government, says Maureen Valsecchi of Dainfern in Johannesburg
Wotta lotta rot.

Government must do its job no matter who you vote for. If it doesn't you have every right - perhaps even an obligation - to complain. You don't lose your right to complain just because you don't vote. Residents who are non-voters can also complain about poor government services. So can voters who happen to be out of the country on election day. Even those who don't vote have a right to complain.

There is no connection between voting and your right to complain about rotten gov service.

Maureen Valsecchi's comment is really brainless.

Vote, it's the only insignificant mark you can make on the inevitable rot that is democracy.

Don't vote, this way you can be a insignificant mark on the rot that is democracy.

All hail Cthulhu, his reign will make your corpses count.

What a stupid statement. You are legally required to pay taxes which the Government, irrespective of whether you are of voting age or whether you voted for them or not, squander or constructively spend.

I will vote but I have no issue with someone who doesn't vote who bitches about government as they probably paid a government tax at some point.

I'm pretty sure those living in shacks would love to earn enough to be paying tax...

It's been pointed out by others that those who spend these taxes are voted into place first..

The solution to that is simple. Lower the tax threshold, or eliminate it completely, and make everyone pay.

Then watch how quickly all these "I'll vote ANC until I die" types catch a wake up when it hits their pockets...

I do agree that when you pay taxes you suddenly are a lot more vested in how the money is spent. However, your proposed solution is not that simple. Firstly, the current government would never do that and alienate their power base. Secondly, at what rate would you charge someone who earns less than R3000 per month?

Last, and to me the biggest obstacle in such a plan even if the ANC did try and implement it - how would you actually collect all this tax? The cost of trying to collect all the little bit's and pieces (people living in townships/squatter camps) would most probably exceed the tax collected.

If vote for VF+, am I allowed to complain?

Yes, because you did your part. Even though some might question your choice of party, at the end of the day that has got nothing to do with anyone else but you.

By not voting you are giving the majority of your vote to the winner. So in effect you are voting and not considering the impact. What gives you the right then to bitch and moan knowing you effectively helped putting these inept bastards back into power?

You're preaching to the choir, i already know this :D

The point is that theoretically, everyone deriving an income should be paying tax on it. Even the leeches who breed freely and rely on social grants...
