No it didn't.
It was probably about 90% short of what was actually needed for the nation
It was the best in Africa. Eskom lasted 12 years before the load shedding started.

They might have been conservative and racist but they planned very well for the future. Now we have zero planning and 100% looting.

Well ja/nee. I don't think "they" factored any plant replacement costs into what electricity was sold for back then, particularly to Alusaf et al (bit dodgy that was IMHO). So some cheeky fellow from the World Bank told us back then, late 90's. Sneered at he was.

Less usage = Less Turnover

You are already running Negative turnover to standard operating costs.

But looking past that, it would reduce the need for load shedding, then again as would Eskom ceasing to exist.
They will have an excuse to raise the tarrifs after a few months of people using less electricity.

Of course they did. Every govt department had a "replacement/reserve/something-or-other fund". They had working brain matter between their ears and the people in charge were experts in their field. And they were not hell-bent on personal enrichment either. With working demand forecasting departments as well. And those departments knew full well what was going to happen to demand, 15 - 20 years into the future. And no, politics did NOT influence the people doing the work and gathering the information.

what a Clown,

Drive less, solve traffic jams.
Eat less, solve obesity
Fly less, solve air travel chaos.
use Internet less, Solve Depression.

just goes to show you how detached from reality majority of the ANC actually is.

Yet, Acacia Park inside the Wingfield Military Base next to the N1 in Cape Town, home to parliamentarians, has never been load shedded.

Great advice, something I intend to take to heart. I will use less of your electricity and more of my own...
Will also take to heart. My plan is to reduce my consumption of Eskom electricity to as little as possible and use Mr Sun supplied electricity as much as possible.

PE even had a mothballed power station until the ANC sold it for a Coke and a packet of chips (Looking at you, Nceba Faku)

Shouldn’t the leader of a country word it as “We must ALL use less electricity”
You lead by example.

I don't want to disappoint you Geoff but the numbers didn't lie. R0,12/kWh did not have anything (or enough) for replacement, even back then.

Doing my part Mr president. First two orders have been placed to go from my small inverter setup to a big setup. I should be mostly off grid by the next winter and have 10+ years of low power usage from eskom after that.
