“Disappearing airtime” is real – We have the proof

Oh my God!!!! I always thought I was crazy when my airtime was disappearing!!!

Caught stealing

You were lucky though - my phone recorded a couple of megs used and it wasn't LTE and it happened in a few minutes, and it happened four times. I didn't have the time to do a controlled experiment for small amounts but I know it happened.

So what happens if I have a balance of R0, but I have data. Do they charge for using the LTE?

Unbelievable. I wonder if this would affect Afrihost Mobile users too?

Isn't the "connecting to lte" excuse bs? Since the mobile data was switched off? Thieving scumbags!

My goeie ***! Great job mybb. We need more investigative journalism. And some mb's charged at oob shark rates??

Yes, in theory. They basically saying that even though your mobile data are turned off, it's still channeling any connection via their LTE towers, which is basically stealing data.

You cannot channel data that's not using that form of connection, because you routing via your wifi connection. Basically, what they are saying, is that despite using of your wifi data, increments of your mobile data are being depleted, because they claim that it's being re routed via their LTE towers which is nonsnese

This is a lie. I have two mobile phones with mtn prepaid sims and they are too old to use lte technology. Especially the blackberry and evey day till the airtime ran out, I received an sms stating that 1M of out of bundle data was used. This even happened when I still used the BIS service.

I'll post some photos later

No, their claim is that due to the connection established with tower, whereby you get an IP, uses data. Since it uses <1kB of data, but billing increments are that as a minimum, you're charged 3c. This happens each time you connect and get a new IP/it has to negotiate.

I would love it if MyBB took it to court, I'm sure they can find someone to do it pro-bono for the publicity.

Headline should say MTN disappearing data, and as I said in other threads, those stories I do believe for MTN, there is something wrong with MTNs systems, been for years now.

But now what about the VC haters... when you piping up?

But if the mobile data connection is off surely it shouldn't receive an IP address? Sure, your MSISDN number will be registered to whichever serving cell it is connected to but does this mean that if you drive through a city with 50+ towers as you pass through you will be billed 50 x 3c even though your mobile data is off? This still reeks of scumbagginess TBH

So what happens after an organisation is caught with their hand in the cookie jar?
