Kia SA would be "foolish" if they do not consider bringing the EV6 to SA land in next 12 months or so. Obs it would be priced high but would be a halo model + showcase for their future EV tech.

KIA are maybe concerned that like Volvo, their excellent electric car will be over-priced through the roof and everyone will laugh because of our stupid Govt taxes and penalties. It ultimately results in a "i wont buy X because they're so expensive" attitude especially from people who don't understand the reason for it.

I followed the EV6 on Youtube, and man, it looks so awesome. I would definitely consider picking one up in a few years

On paper yes but then you get articles like this:

We asked Maruszewski how the Volvo XC40 Recharge (full-electric vehicle) has been received so far since it went on sale online in SA last year. The model can drive more than 400km on a single charge, and for the first few years of ownership, you can still have access to a petrol or a diesel vehicle if you think you might experience range anxiety on those long road trips.

"We were hoping to bring the vehicle to South Africa in 2021. Unfortunately, this could not happen due to two of the most significant challenges facing the global automotive and electronics industries: the shortage of semiconductors and the Covid-19 pandemic. We sold out in four days, and to date, 30 cars have been reserved for customers. Currently, we are sold out for production until April, and we are waiting for the next allocation."

The Volvo boss said the first XC40 Recharge delivery in SA took place on the 25th of January 2022. "Eleven XC40 P8 Recharge models will have arrived by the end of January for delivery to customers, and then the remaining 30 cars sold will land here by June 2022," he expounds.

I stand by my opinion. The importance of a halo + tech showcase model.

I'm surprised they moving so many. I might consider it one day but i mean i paid R200k less for an XC60 with 235KW and every single conceivable extra I could tick on the order.

first lets deal with the elephant in the room,
Eskom and its non performance,

once we get an electricity supply that is considered stable, and we haven't had a bout of load shedding in 2 years,
then we consider it,

and while were at it, taxes and laws, at the moment to do your DL on an EV is a nightmare, (Automatic and Electric only???)
then taxes, how will the Government pay for its stupidity and incompetence I mean they earn well from fuel taxes were all forced to pay, how will it work here?
GPS tracker on the EV that taxes the Mileage you drive? easy way to pay for Etolls just turn the dial when you like.

then finally, the SA labor front, how will all these mechanics shops deal with it.
then parts suppliers, scrapyards, and everybody else involved in the motor industry.

love EV's but they are an old solution to a problem we have had for a long time
how to get from A to B cheaply.

A personal EV with its heavy and expensive batteries with their propensity to Roast people alive
when they in a crash isnt the solution.

more work needs to be put into it to operate in a 3rd world sh*th0le like SA,

in Sweden and a 1st world, most of the problems figured out, but here

wait until a bunch of petrol attendants go around hunting down EV's and setting fire to them, cause...
