Whats wrong with Bradley Prior's maths.

Title: 9 deaths and 1,505 coronavirus cases in South Africa
Yesterday we were at 5 deaths.

Tweet says: 2 more deaths today

So should be at 7 deaths total.

Who many tests are we currently conducting per day?

Scary because there were cases in the townships which means the clock has started the carriers are now infecting, it will explode after the incubation period.

5 last night with 2 under evaluation, since confirmed = 7 confirmed, plus 2 more under evaluation today = 9. Nothing wrong with the maths.

The South African government is prepared to spend any amount of money it takes to save lives.

This was the battle cry from Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Friday afternoon.

“It does not matter how much money we spend. It will be worth it …
Any amount of money... yeah that's always a sound approach to take. Wonder where that money was when combating TB and the myriad other health problems south africans face daily without adequate support from government.

Mostly private labs... National labs are struggling to break 1000 a day from what I know.
Indeed. There are only seven labs attached to the NHLS that are doing COVID-19 testing, and their rate is less than 1000 per day. Hopefully rapid tests like that Bosch on-site one that does a full spectrum of PCR tests in 2.5 hours will change things rapidly.

It’s always sad when someone dies, but some of these deaths though...
They count 9 people but the other guy had severe skin cancer, and now an 80 and 81 year old.
I don’t want to sound unsympathetic or spread fake news but this Corona thing is...
it’s just starting to sound more and more like a me too campaign.

You do sound unsympathetic, to be clear.

But this is the reality of COVID-19. Those with comorbidities and strong immune system responses will be the first to die. The virus affects everyone, and will kill healthy people as well as the sick.

Don't fall into the trappings of conspiracy because it's a more comfortable idea to you. The stories are about individuals now because the numbers are low. In the weeks, and months ahead, there won't be time to mourn the dead as we do now.

You’re probably right. The point I was trying to make is complicated enough for close people to understand talking face to face, never mind strangers on a forum.
It’s not about the sick, or the dying but more around the ... socio-political/ media/so many other things. It’s like it suits a certain narrative for deaths to be related to Corona even those that would otherwise be attributed to old age for example.
Here’s the thing, if we put the country on lockdown (with all its devastating effects on the economy and lives of the poor) and somehow the death toll remains at zero- the majority of the financially affected wouldn’t see the seriousness of the pandemic (and that’s the majority of the country). But if the death toll rises, then that by itself is justification. So if a death can be attributed to Corona, even if 1%attributed to Corona, then it serves the narrative to be included in the Corona death toll.

But things like this will always be misinterpreted- especially among complete strangers
