Nokia?

List is beyond short sighted to say someone like Nokia will disappear this year.

Not really; the assumption is sound. Nokia may be bought out by, for example, Microsoft.

I spose I'm looking more at Nokia as a company than Nokia as a phone making division....

There is a small chance Nokia (the phone making aspect) could be bought out by Microsoft, but I somehow doubt it.. MS have had bad luck in owning phone companies (the Microsoft Kin range).

But I spose time will tell because anything could happen.

Yea, but then one has to ask why blackberry/rim isnt on that list too, they are in the exact same predicament as Nokia. Maybe rim is set for 2013 ;)

Unless BB10 shows something spectacular, I actually predict RIM to die a slow and painful death and not be bought out or anything of that nature... the brand has suffered MASSIVE negative publicity recently and is not the darling child it used to be.

Nokia already have a strategic agreement with MS, would be strange for them to sell now - I think it is a bit short-sighted to write them off so quickly as they still make great hardware. RIM on the other hand, how are they not on the list?

The Sony Ericsson thing is an odd one to really put on here as it was more of a JV between companies that has come to an end and the brand is just changing to Sony only. Its not really the end of a business to me as I kind of viewed them as Sony anyway.

Nokia is going nowhere for a while still. Things are picking up and they sell a huge number of dumb phones.

Nicely called ...!
Thanks :p

It made sense at the time as the mobile division was running at a loss whereas their network and solution division was growing (NSN). Microsoft had also hit a ceiling and needed an outlet for further growth...

Very well called :)

But still, I was right though.. Nokia didn't disappear, and if the noises from MS are to be believed, it won't be going anywhere anytime soon either, they want to keep the Nokia brand.

As I understand it, Microsoft can use the Nokia name till 31 December 2015 on smartphones and for ten years on Asha line.

Nokia can do their own smartphones again from 1 January 2016. It'll be interesting to see what they do.

If the trends stay as they are currently then Nokia could make a killing by selling android phones.
I have been waiting for ages to get a high spec Nokia android phone but it hasnt happened yet :(
Still the Lumia 930 is calling to me.
