10 GIG is fair

Dear fellow ADSL-users

Maybe you noticed that Telkom's service is not bad these days. The one thing that makes me remain negative is this highly restrictive cap of 3 Gig. I wonder how they calculated it it.

I think that, with a 10 Gig cap, together with the splendid service from Telkom that we get nowadays, ADSL users may be much more content.

Should we not start to concentrate our fight on the Cap?

I remember when I had ADSL installed last year August, this is exactly waht the techie guy said.

Hi Beyers

This is an interesting idea. There are many angles from which we can approach the cap issue (together with the ongoing ICASA complaint), including the elimination of line rental where these funds can be used to purchase additional bandwidth. Although I feel that this is the most logical move it is unlikely that Telkom will do this. They will be much more inclined to increase the cap (if anything). I will be interested to find out what the other members think…

I agree that service was better the past weeks (except for the NY outage).

I guess at least the following has put pressure on Telkom:

MyADSL complaint with ICASA
The various reports about Telkom's pricing etc
Consumer groups
The launch of www.telkomsucks.co.za
The general consumer/business user perception that Telkom=a massive mess
(When last have you heard of Telkom doing something right from the start)

And, ofcourse, the new kid on the block (MyWireless) getting its act together and going somewhere is starting to erode the Telkom subscriber base a slight bit.

The bad part is that the SNO is faltering into nothing.

My guess:

Telkom will announce with its proposal for rates for 2005 that following international trends, ADSL will be changed as follows...

This is what they did to justify the reduction of international call rates.

Lets see what happens.

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

Do you have an idea when Telkom usually makes these announcements? Maybe we should plant the idea with them that a better capping situation will help a lot to satisfy their ADSL customers, and it will help them to keep their current customer base etc.

Groete

They always refer in the third person context. Like its the International Norm that they must change. Not because everyone is peeved off at them perhaps? Its all politics mate. Business as usual etc.

If they wanted to follow the international norm and sell ADSL as it was designed, they have failed misereably. But increasing their sharevalue at the expense of customer dissatisfaction. Full Marks.

Well increasing the cap to 10Gb is a brilliant idea. It will not be the "best" solution but will be a big step towards it. I like the idea.

Rather be silent and thought of as a fool than speak and remove all doubt.

The idea of increasing the cap to 10gB will make a lot of us happier. As EkilErif stated, it is not the "best" solution but it is definately a step in the right direction. As far as the service we are getting from ADSL I don't think anyone will really complain about it (except for the price), which could be justified if the cap was increased. I don't mind paying R1000 for a fast internet connect. I have a problem paying R1000 and then getting throttled to 0.1kb/s.
