I was upgraded to 10meg (sync at 8meg) and my http download speeds are only slightly higher at +- 460 KB/s (Down Them All speed in Firefox). What speeds should I be getting on a 8meg line (uncapped)??

Divide by 8, so roughly you should be able to see 1mb a second. However thats with PERFECT conditions. So i'd think 800-900KB/s is more accurate as you need to account for overhead.

That is what I thought. At the moment I am only getting about 475KB/s. Pingtest shows decent results (B grade Line). Have asked telkomza to look into it. He gave me a test account to use (Capped) and I was getting over 800 on that account. Suspect it has got something to do with my account....

it does,
the uncap account u use is limited to 4mbps

cap accounts dont have a speed limit, thats why u get full speed on a cap account

I thought I was upgraded to 10meg automatically (as part of the telkom upgrades). Will check with 10210.

Pity the Telkom 10Mb uncapped account is R574 vs R249 for the 4Mb. My line only syncs at 6MB so paying R287 extra for extra 2Mb is not worth it.

So I guess it would make more sense to downgrade to the 4MB DSL speeds. Unless there is a solution you guys know about...

yes it does

u have to pay more for the data

if u downgrade to normal 4mbps line it will cost cheaper

than the 4mbps data with the 10mbps line that u got now

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/90811-free-telkom-adsl-speed-upgrades.html
look here for the price list

so full 10mbps will cost R1000 pm

u will only pay R25 cheaper pm now (your currnet setup with a faster line)
but if u want full 10mbps u need to pay R325 more pm

Damn, just when I though Telkom was being generous and giving us a free upgrade....

This is getting confusing now... I was on 4, so I'll automatically be upgraded to 10. But 10 what? Is that the line speed or data? I'm currently synced at 6. What am I going to be paying for, and how much more or less?

The line speed, but if your ISP is also TelkomInternet, then the data too.
(There is a bit of a price hike for the TI data 4mbps -> 10mbps)
