A newly released study reveals the countries with the deadliest roads.

Think twice about planning your next road trip in Russia, Slovakia or Poland. Those countries top a newly released list of nations with the most road fatalities.

Phew! Thought SA would be like... 1st! :D

The list is included in a report by the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD), a Paris-based group of 30 countries with market economies. The group surveyed its members, tracking both deaths per million individuals and deaths per million drivers in 2007. For our list of 10 dangerous countries for drivers, we averaged a country's ranking on each data point for a composite result.

The rest is here: http://news.za.msn.com/Forbes.aspx?cp-documentid=147452633

Not a chance. Majority of SA drivers still stick to the rules and regulations.

Egypt for instance doesn't even have a set direction of moving. Everyone just drives and hopes for the best.

All you have to do is watch the Amazing Race to see what driving is like in Asia/Europe.

Scary stuff!

did you read the end bit? they make South Africa sound like a horrid place to live!

"vehicle registrations are mandatory; police, hospital and emergency staffs are trained professionals; and fatality statistics include all those who died up to 30 days after an accident from a related wound".

so they basically said we don't have vehicle registrations, effective police, well run hospitals because we don't have trained professionals. ok, on second thought

I found driving in Poland to be quite civilised.

Russia was quite like SA.

Egypt though has to be THE WORST EVER! The mind boggles how driving is done in that country. I was utterly shocked.

For anyone who's been to the UAE...you know. In the mornings when the fog covers the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway so much that people drive with their hazards on the whole time, so that you don't know when they're changing lanes, everyone driving at least 160 km/h, a maximum of three feet (feet not seconds) following distance. Makes SA highways seem nice. Read an article a few months ago about the exact same situation. Following car did not see the car in front of it change lanes and it smashed right into it at 160. More than forty people killed and 400 injured.
