10 most powerful military forces in the world

Although India might be #5, an army of Indians doesn't sound particularly terrifying. Sure, they might kill you but I'm sure you'd be able to negotiate.

That's not a very useful comparison because it completely ignores surface ships. The fact that the USA has 10 active supercarriers, which is five times more than every other nation combined, is kinda important, especially in terms of force projection.

I can agree that USA is probably #1, but the variants used can hardly be applied to determine 1-10.

A recent report on globalisation from Credit Suisse has ranked the world’s top militaries based on the number of active personnel, tanks, aircraft, and submarines they possess.

The report states that the ranking was based on quantitative terms, such as the number of vehicles and personnel, and did not take the quality or readiness of the armed forces into account.

Moar...

This is the USA military backbone,

The IAF is quite strong and have demonstrated superiority in military exercises between allies. They also have strong artillery divisions.

A few surprises there:
Italy there??? The biggest item in their inventory is probably white flags.
Israel not there?
Pre 1994 SA would have had a good rating.

Israel are there. They're at #1.

After China walked into some areas of Northern India in the 1962 Sino Indian War, they upped their game and by 3 years later came out tops in the 1965 2nd India Pakistan War.
Since then they have just kept growing, and maintain an extremly modern military machine.

Problem with all of this force projection are that:

1. A few sunburn missiles can sink a carrier.

2. It's OK to blow stuff up but it's impossible to hold a given country without it costing a lot and losing significant amount of men. In a republic this will not be tolerated.

3. In any existential or home turf war with a nuclear power, nuclear weapons will be used and that makes conventional warfare moot.

However the changing demographics of the US will no doubt change its allegiances. It is inevitable that whites will become a minority and then progressively a less and less influential minority. US alliances with Europe, Israel, Korea and Japan will shift. That will happen.

Yah, one thing, an old Dune quote,

It's the reason why USD is reserve currency. And once China, Russia or India are able to float something similar, then we'll consider their currencies.

Thanks for quoting that 12,000 x 8,000 picture. Next time, please just remove the image tags, there's no need for image repeats.

A lean and mean army can be more effective than a huge cludgy one.

Quantitive analysis is totally inaccurate in this case as the quality of the equipment is not being taken into consideration either.

Thank god the top two are white countries ! Imagine the horror if non whites gain some form of power ? Civilization will surely end.

I'm surprised England is ranked as high as they are, given the way they surrendered during the Rugby World Cup
