And the bad thing is we are wasting our precious bandwidth allocation on reading this article and commenting on it (another few bytes down the drain )

The title has a lot of "shock value". :(

I seriously hope all the fibre being laid by Neotel is put to use with Triple Play. I'd jump on an offer like this!

We have been going on about the ridiculous pricing since ADSL was launched in this country... All of that has unfortunately gone on deaf ears and hopefully Neotel will actually make a difference.

2 telecoms providers does not a cheap adsl make.

rpm, please. In future, in order not to get our hopes up, please don't give the articles headlines as such, because just for a split second it seems like SA has finally seen the light, especially when the price is mentioned in rands. I'd rather something like "France unveils 100Mbs triple play service for R436", so it doesn't get my hopes up and, after clicking on the link, make me want to kill myself :(

Many thanks
An extremely depressed Kasyx.

The sad thing is that we are dropping further behind the rest of the world every single year. Thanks corrupt Government, thanks telkom.

The french will most probably kick our buts in the world cup as well.

Anyone remember Jazztel in Italy? Korea? France?

All these countries have dramatically improved their broadband products i.t.o. price and speed over a span of a few years. By 2010 we could definitely have a major turnaround, now you'd say it's possible not probable and I'd agree with that, but we have seen small price cuts and also Neotel is a month away from commercial product launch aren't they?

This is why I keep on saying those on this site saying 384kbps, 3gb for R200-R300 per month and they'd be happy, are out of touch. While we're still at that thinking we're not seeing how far SA lags ADSL with what is available.

I say it again uncapped, minimum 8mbps for around R200 per month (all inclusive), now we're beginning to lag less. :)

Angus Hay once gave an example of an Italian based company that provided an uncapped 10Mbps broadband service. He then said;

"This is where we want to be. So from a real broadband, lets call it the true broadband perspective. That's where we want to be."

That quote hurts my brain because it doesn't make sense.

I didn't read the article first but the first couple of replies. Was thinking South Africans always complaining.

Maybe if an article like this appeared on the frontpage of the major newspapers we can have more complaining South Africans, and a greater number of knowledgable consumers.

Imagine a bundled payTV, call and internet package at a reasonable price. Then more previously disadvantages South Africans could afford what is now an elitest lifestyle. Debacles like the PSL agreement would be a thing of the past, since most South Africans could afford payTV and would not be forced to watch the drivel on our famous "free"-to-air TV.

Heaven forbid included would be internet connectivity and a medium that could self-educate a major portion of the population that does not have access to qualified teachers. But would our government want an educated voting population? Hmmm... I wonder?
