Hi All,

Anyone have any feedback on 10x investments? I'm considering moving my portfolio over from Liberty to 10x due to fees and minimal growth, plus I like the passive investment idea.

Thanks!

My employers provident fund also with them. Some stats if you want:

2013:
Investment return - 20.77%
Less: 10X Asset fee impact - 0.40%
Net investment return - 20.37%

2014:
Investment return - 12.61%
Less: 10X Asset fee impact - 0.43%
Net investment return - 12.18%

2015 to date:
Investment return - 9.99%
Less: 10X Asset fee impact - 0.13%
Net investment return - 9.86%

INVESTMENT REVIEW SINCE DATE JOINED - 01/01/2013 (annualised)*
Investment return - 19.9%
Less: asset fee related impact - 0.4%
Net investment return since inception - 19.4%
Net Real investment return since inception -12.9% (this takes into account the affect of inflation)

ASSET ALLOCATION OF YOUR INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO - 10X High Equity
SA Equity - 53%
International Equity - 22%
SA Bond - 12%
SA Property - 6%
SA Cash - 5%
International Currency - 3%

They would have had better growth if the SA property allocation was higher (SA property unit trusts are the best performing over the past 12 months), but good luck finding any Asset Manager with a balanced fund that allocates more than 5 to 6%. That's why I, in my personally constructed RA that I also contribute to monthly, had it at 15% allocation on setup. Has paid off nicely.

Thanks for the reply guys. Will have a look into sygnia. I'm looking to move my RA.

Can anyone give any feedback on ETFSA's RA? Had a quick look at it and it seems that 10x is still the answer in terms of fees

What I like about the 10X product is the following:

That ~50% in local equity, invests in the top 60 shares in the JSE, and the shares are limited to up to 6% and it gets rebalanced twice a year. So say that big grower Naspers grows to 8%, that extra 2% gets sold and then distributed to buy shares in the other companies.

Sygnia is also a good option, its Skeleton fund is much the same as the 10X allocation wise, the underlying funds and how they are composed are different obviously.

Are you invested in both?

Im with ETFSARA.

On there site you will see...

Low "clean"administration costs (0,85% per annum "all-in" - no other hidden charges or fees, includes asset management fees, brokerage/JSE charges, debit orders, full administration of accounts, benefits, reporting and compliance).

On my platform I get charged this

Annual platform fee (%) (VAT excl)0.50%
Annual fund sponsor fee (%)0.65%

Then its this

In addition, the fund will incur limited variable c
osts associated with the management of the Fund,
which costs are apportions to members of the RA Fun
d. It is the intention of the Trustees to keep
such costs as low as possible.

I am looking at switching over to sygnia where they 'SAY' its only 0.4%. Lets hope so

Thanks for the info Tuyler - I also picked up on the "variable costs" bullshyt. I'm about to go with Sygnia. Tired of the Liberty RA that my ex-FA setup for me. you have no idea how many penalties I'm being charged to do a transfer, but rather now than later.

The thing I like about Sygnia is that if I want to invest in established asset managers like Allan Gray for example I can do so through their platform with the flexibility of switching, stopping contributions etc with no fees / penalties.

My biggest difficulty atm is deciding between Unit Trusts and their Unitised Life Funds - might stick with the Unit Trusts as it's something that I understand better

Hi Miky

Its funny, I too am with liberty, I was lucky though and only started it last year with the minimum amount of R300. Only after I got my statements did I wake up to how much fees were being charged. Thats when I moved to etfsara. Same thing happened there. haha

With Sygnia I prefer the unit trust unhedged fund, I used to trade forex and trying to short and time markets are a thing of the past for me.

You can just add to your equity exposure with your tax refund and using the TFSA and let the low cost index fund do its thing.

Remember, there are 2 options:

http://www.sygnia.co.za/personal-investments/fees/

The Boutique Option which you only have access to the Sygnia UTs but no platform costs, and the Emporium Option where you can access Sygnia and other funds, but it has a platform cost.

Just remember with Sygnia as soon as you use an Emporium fund you will pay an admin fee of .25% on your Boutique investments as well. Better to stick to Boutique options only.

I wonder though how going through Sygnia to buy Allan Gray or Coronation compares to going direct

If you agree with the passive investment approach maybe consider a company called 'Deton Private Wealth'. They also offer RA's and Tax free savings accounts. Another option is easy equities :)
