"As indicated in the notice posted on 18th August 2004 we have implemented certain upgrades on the MyWireless 256 package and will implement similar upgrades on the MyWireless 128 and 512 products. "

This is from the Sentech Bulletin board.

It looks like the other packages are about to get hard capped the way 256 appears to be. Given how disasterous the results have been for 256K ppl, this does not look good.

128/512 users I suggest you start monitoring your performance to see how the degrade pans out.

I would hardly call it upgrades... So the slow speed is going to be permanent? I guess it's time to cancel my debit order then and keep Sentech in the dark about why they are not receiving payment - much like they have done to us

I don't hold out much hope but I've been told that once the changes are fully implemented we will be switched to another bandwidth provider ... at this point I don't believe ANYTHING can help Sintech... only hours left....

They must be shaping BT downloads now as i cannot get more than 3KB/s on BT. On http i can get 11KB/s.
I have one of their adverts that says no capping of giggs and no throttling of bandwidth. So they lying. (Source is Bright Spark Magazine that came with my Time magazine last month)

So if we are hardcaped at 2.5KB/s on 256 then the 128 will only get 1.25KB/s at best

if p2p appz are "shaped" overall performance on the network will work better, this includes surfing, latency, http downloads, ftp downloads. Generally anybody in SA can't afford to offer unshapped broadband p2p. P2P hungry "abusers" will continue to absorb as much bandwidth as possible.

However these ISP's have to realize that bit torrent files are becoming a more general way hosting files. Its not only being used to host media anymore. From Dl'ing the latest patches to getting the newest Unix release versions are all in Bit Torrent Format. Without BT we are being shoved into a corner.

At the end of the day its all telskums and the gov. fault. Bandwidth is riducously expensive in SA and the government allows telkom to keep on milking the citizens of SA.

Deregulate the market. Its the key to success

I just had a call from the helpdesk. They say they aren't done as they've run into some problems but they are hoping to have it done by the 1st of September (he didn't say which year) :p

I just want my damn mail to work again. I use an overseas account because there is no local 100mb mailboxes available as far as I know. Since they've done, whatever they've done, I can't download any mail from those accounts. I honestly think it's my right to have a mail account wherever I want and the isp service I've signed up with shouldn't limit that.
