Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) Technology

AGM or Absorbent Glass Mat is an advanced lead-acid battery that provides superior power to support the higher electrical demands of today’s vehicles and start-stop applications.

I haven't seen any AGM batteries? Just LI and LA.

Our alarm battery wasn't making it through all of load shedding, meaning that when the power kicked in the alarm went off. Lots of fun at 2/4 in the morning, so I got over my laziness and went and got one.

Know that problem all too well.

We opted for a proper deep cycle battery (Royal 1150K I think) + sperate trickle charger at the office. Power can be off for a week and it will still work. :D

Home alarm is running off my Mecer inverter so doesn't ever use its own battery.

Didn't realise that you could do this. Will chat to my brother about a more long term solution because I'm tired of throwing away dead 12v LA batteries for certain things around the house just because load shedding destroys them.

I ordered 2 of these exact Blue Novas for my UPS. I had to return them because my UPS would not charge them.

Were the batteries duds or just didn't work with your setup? Generally speaking the reviews for these things seem to be on the positive side, so weird that you ended up with two that didn't work.

Dont chuck em donate at local informal settlement. I know people use them with 1 or 2 LED lights for home lighting. When shot the battery sucks at keeping an alarm going but they still can keep the light on for at least a week on a single charge.

We have a hole row of em 12V's at work charging every Monday from workers that stay in informal hosing, also one from Dobsinville that had no power for 4 months....

That's awesome!

When I say chuck em I mean I take them to Communica since they will make sure they're properly disposed off. Not sure what happens to them from there.

The batteries worked. but when they had run down the UPS just wouldn't charge them. The battery management system was not compatible.

The Mecer and RCT 1000VA/2000VA are an issue but some others are fine with the Blue Nova batteries. Luck of the draw.

Yeah my home alarm is running off my Ecco 1500w inverter so no worries on it either, though it has had to use it's battery last week thanks to the LA battery dying, but that got replaced with the hubble yesterday.

But how are the batteries thereafter disposed of in a responsible way? Because if they're just thrown out in the informal settlement you have potentially dangerous substances seeping into the ground.

Most battery places will give you a few bucks for the used batteries (even the small 7AH ones), they recycle them. They contain lead that should not end up on a landfill

I've never heard of that. They're the ones doing you the favour by getting rid of the battery for you.

You don't throw them into the ocean?
