I wonder how many other manufacturers have similar set set-ups and how many more foxconn has itself.

We all want cheaper products though

Well, when I was 12, I pushed trollies over weekends outside Spar to make some pocket money. I did this for about a year till Spar actually offered me a job as a packer. I loved it. I loved working there, and it taught me how to work with my money from a young age.

Till some douchbag customer got butthurt that spar employed a 13 year old and reported them. I got laid off, and went back to pushing trollies. I was heart broken and couldn't understand why I had to wait till 16 to work, when I was fully capable and enjoyed it.

My point is, perhaps these under aged children enjoy working there. I mean it's an income even though it's cheap labor. I'm pretty sure Foxconn isn't holding a gun to their heads and forcing labor on them... Just my 2c.

I don't know, I wouldn't have minded making Nintendos at 14. As long as I still went to school of course.

Did they ask those kids what the earned money is for? Were they actually forced to work like in slave labour! I see no problem taking street kids on and give them a job in South Africa. That could be the best thing on earth for the kid.

When you live in a first world country where kids have everything they want its hard to imagine a kid wanting to earn their own pocket money so they can afford to actually buy a Nintendo, PS3 or Xbox.

So you then call it abuse(which it sometimes is) and get all exited.

As long as they are still getting a good education and not being forced to work I say let them.

Its illegal.

Yup but when your family needs the money, you do what must be done. She is now a chartered accountant earning 50-80k a month purely because she worked at a young age and was able to finance her studies.

So the system seems very flawed to me. These days 14 year old children are hardly still young ignorant fools, most are sexing it up, drinking, drugging and so on.

Yeah I find it f**king ridiculous that you can have sex before 16, but you're not allowed to work...

What is much? If you could not make 4-8k easily then perhaps there is a reason. Good waiters make good money, poor service and a kuk attitude generally ensures you make very little.

Then again i think spur was a bit different 20 years ago or the cost of living was not as high as it is now.

Exactly. Id put my money on most of those children wanting to work. If a child gets forced to work by parents or guardians thats a different story, but when they want to work to help support their already impoverished families, they should be allowed to. They must also get paid the same as any adult doing the same work. I say let them work if they want to...

Then the result of the above opinions is you have a lot of kids dropping out of school early to feed their families. Thats a social downwards spiral. Not upwards.
