144hz Asus VG248QE - bright dot, distributors not interested

I purchased a VG248QE from Landmark, and after booting it up immediately displayed a bright pixel.

A bright pixel is different from a dead pixel; it's this bright dot on your screen visible in all scenarios except for a white background - obviously incredibly frustrating. They sent it back to their suppliers who claim it's not covered and closed the case.

Looking at the warranty it seems ZBE and Premium models have 0 bright dot policies, but I can't find anywhere on the Asus site what the VG248QE is..

Anyone have similar experiences? I called Asus SA but they told me I have to go through the distributors for claiming warranty.

This is obviously incredibly frustrating having dropped 6k.. last time I'm ever buying Asus.

The warranty policy you linked to would be correct: 1 bright pixel = replacement.

The problem, I'd think, would be Landmark or their suppliers; not Asus.

Also, R6,100 for the 24"?

My VG278HE (27") was around R5,000.

Talk about insane prices...

When did you buy it?

Thanks for the heads up. Seems to me we should be boycotting Asus SA.

The suppliers (I imagine Corex) claim the monitor is not a ZBD or Premium. This makes it a "NON-ZBD" monitor, which a allows up to three bright pixels..

  1. I find it hard to believe this 3D 144hz is ranked so low to be 'NON-ZBD'
  2. Looking on the Asus site no monitors have this "Premium" or "ZBD" classification associated with them. So you're in the dark what is actually covered..

There's a difference between hot pixels and dead pixels, if I recall correctly, it's three dead pixels.

A hot pixel functions but is white, a dead pixel is not functioning thats why its black.

I had issues with my asus screen out of the box it had one stuck pixel it was stuck on red. Out of The box in the middle of the screen a red stuck pixel... I called up asus and they said they will send me new one cause of the DOA policy. If there is anything wrong with the screen when you open it they will replace it or that is what they did with my 2 screen cause the next one they sent me had a stuck green pixel.

I also recently bought an Asus from Landmark and ended up with this:

ihv1.jpg

They initially sent it back to Frontosa but apparently backlight bleed-through isn't covered by the warranty. I finally had to contact Asus myself and had it shipped back to them (via Frontosa) for evaluation. In the end they offered a replacement or a refund (via credit note to Frontosa -> Landmark -> me.) Took the refund. A little research showed that this problem is somewhat common on this model. PB248Q

There's a few websites out there that randomize colors quickly on your screen. Let it run for about 10 minutes. It might fix the issue and it's worth a try. Let me know if you can't find a suitable link.

I'd love to see that software actually work :p Tried it on a few screens, zero success.
