Hi people

So, after some soul searching, I have realized I am not a good match for my current employer: bureaucracy and I don't mix well. I am more suited to startups/very small companies, or have the freedom to become an "intrapreneur" in a large corporation.
EDIT: I need to take ownership of a problem, from start to end. I do not wish to be just another cog in the wheel.

That being said, here's a blurb about my personality:
I am a typical INTP on the Myers-Briggs personality type indicator system (see http://www.keirsey.com/4temps/architect.asp and http://www.truity.com/personality-type/INTP).

My passion is using technology for the purpose of education. I love the challenge of figuring out how best to communicate new knowledge and understanding to individuals. I have, in fact, written a highly configurable little software application that trains some Grade 1 mathematics skills, and would love to pursue further work in the educational space.

Ultimately I am all about optimisation/improvement: making "things" better, faster, more efficient, more useful/user friendly, etc: essentially adding value. The "thing" could be a person (hence the education industry), but does not necessarily have to be.

Now on to my skills:
I have a little over 15 years' experience in the IT industry, mostly as a software developer (there's a smattering of lecturing too). I have had sys admin duties and DBA (SQL Server, Postgres) duties as well. My main dev languages are C++ and Java, and I quite enjoy writing the odd shell script. I am also very proficient in SQL (T-SQL and PL/pgsql). I have had exposure (to varying degrees) to some other languages over the years (like Javascript, C# and Ruby), but do not sell myself as an expert in these languages. That being said, I have been around the block enough times to not be phased by a new language: it's just something I expect myself to pick up with some time and lots of googling. :)

Regarding my education:
Technical courses
I have a B. Sc (Computer Science) degree from UCT. I have also recently become highly interested in Data Science, and am busy with the Coursera specialization series of courses for Data Science. (I have completed the first 2 courses of this specialization series).

Business/Management courses
I have completed the following courses offered by Open2Study
(As a side-note, I found the latter course to be far more useful than the former)

At Coursera, I am currently doing the following course on managing a Data Science team (completed the first 2 courses in this specialization series):

Career Goals
I believe I have now reached a mature enough level to be molded for a managerial role - I am the (unofficial) team lead of my team, and have had to (unofficially) manage the team (as far as "management" goes in an agile environment). I do not (yet) wish to be purely a manager that does no technical work, so perhaps a technical role with some management responsibilities would be ideal.
I have a keen interest in Data Science, and would like to get involved in that space.

Location
I am based in Somerset West, Cape Town, and would ideally like to work in the general area between Somerset West and Stellenbosch. I am, however, open to negotiation on location.

Well, that's me. If anyone knows of a company to which I am well suited to add value, please feel free to pm me.

Note that I have informed my HR manageress of my intention to move on, and explained my reasons to her, and she has agreed to serve a reference for me. I have requested her to be perfectly honest, irrespective of whether the feedback is positive or negative: I want my new employer to be fully aware of all my strengths and weaknesses (my current employer had the same access to my previous employer - however, I did not, at the time, realize my overwhelmingly strong preference for less structure and more freedom to be productive/creative or keep myself more informed to be better placed to add value to the company).
Anyway, the point is that any prospective employer will know exactly what I bring to the table: both my strengths and my shortcomings.

If there is anything I have omitted or been unclear about, I trust my fellow rather candid myBB forumites will (over?)eagerly point it out. :D

If only job posts were this clear.

Brett Jones from Key Connections is by far the best tech recruiter I've come across in Cape Town.
Give him a call.

EDIT: Sorry I realise you are not looking in Cape Town, so he may not be able to help you.

Good luck!

This is one of the best posts I've read in this section of the forum.

Best of luck. With an attitude like yours, I am sure you will find the right organization.

If I were you I would try create my own startup for a year. It sounds like you need something different after 15 years.

If I was looking at this "CV", I would likely toss it into the discard pile very early for this:

" or have the freedom to become an "intrepreneur" in a large corporation."

Spell check folks. Seriously.

I think OP was going for a portmanteau of internal and entrepreneur - an "interpreneur" within a corporate. Can you misspell a fake word? :)

Wow, this is really freaky.

We may have made some (slightly) different choices in life but the similarities are extremely close.
Ironically though, its something that an INTP doesnt want to hear. :p

Best of luck though
