1998 son... A year before the school computers were invented
I wrote Matric in 1997 and we had a practical component on the school's XT's. We could bring our own PC's, but it had to be wiped beforehand. I remember it vividly because some of the kids had those newfangled P1's.

Primary school 86-92 we had Comodores.

Unabashedly racist bullschit. Jesus.

Do you have any evidence that black people cannot operate a power grid? Do only white people work at the electricity utilities in California?

BTW: I'm not saying Eskom is a well run business supplying a uninterrupted power to the nation. I'm saying they are a bunch of cnuts, of all colours.
I think you should re-read his post. He didn't say white people are the only people who can run the power stations. He said that those who are there now can't run the power station, and that the white people with the knowledge and experience have left the country.

I, for one, believe he's spot on. I'm not saying he's not racist or whatever, but that post, to me, isn't nearly as racist as you make it out to be.

New fangled P1s in 1997? They'd been around for four years already, I remember in 1996 my school did a revamp of it's computer labs and all of the machines were replaced with new fangled P1-166mhzs which were 300mhz by the time I did Matric in 1999.
We still played on the old 386 machines before the upgrade, games like Star Control 2 were great :).

Rubbish, it's not racist it's fact.

You do know that in 1994 ESKOM was one of the best run energy companies IN THE WORLD. They had no debt.

People from other countries used to come and learn from us here in SA on how we do things! Then the ANC took over.

It is only obvious that white people would be the best qualified for the job as that is the demographic who had been running ESKOM all this time. Black people should have learned from whites but instead they just fired as many whites as they could and replaced them with unqualified blacks.

For whatever reason the ANC/ESKOM ignored a white paper in 2007 that told them that we would end up in the EXACT POSITION we are on now if we did not expand our capacity. What did they do. Fokol. Nothing. Nada. Zip. One of the stupidest moves in SA history.

You need experience to run a company like ESKOM, blacks at the time didn't have that experience but they wanted the whites out at all cost. They have screwed up ESKOM like EVERY OTHER SOE because they filled positions with comrades instead of competent people.

I might have my chronology confused to be honest. But I'm pretty sure the first 100mhz P1`s I personally saw was in 1997. Could be because the High School was servicing a pretty much low middle class area.

I had a PPro 200mhz dual socket under my desk in 1997.

I only had a lowly 133mhz at the time :-(. But still not bad for someone who fixed other peoples PC's to build his own :).

I don't remember there being much need for electricity when I was writing matric exams. We did it during the day and on paper.

But good to know that Eskom thinks the power loss is worse for people writing exams than the entire economy losing a couple billion rand when there is loadshedding.
I'm sure exam halls needed lighting even during the day. Unless you wrote your exams under a tree.

Definitely. Traffic is absolute ****ing chaos when all the traffic lights die.
A friend of mine that stays in Sandhurst doesn't know the meaning of load-shedding his power hasn't been turned off for even 1 second.

So, you think Eskom is working perfectly, right? No loadshedding. No issues. CR and Gordhan were just fooling around when they admitted the white people with the experience left Eskom and the country and they wanted them back.

You are the real racist.

I like how you chop off the entire paragraph of my post where I say that Eskom is being run poorly by a bunch of cnuts then ask me if I think it's hunky dory. I mean is this the freaking Twilight zone or something? JFC.

Results speak for themselves

Which is why I point out that California is also in an electricity crisis. If they have similar issues and none of these incapable black folks then somehow the logic isn't working, i.e.: this is racist af.

I think you should re-read his post. He didn't say white people are the only people who can run the power stations. He said that those who are there now can't run the power station, and that the white people with the knowledge and experience have left the country.

Ja, this is a fair reading of the OP.

It isn't fact. If you think that loadshedding is proof that black people can't run power stations then frankly I don't know what to say. That isn't what facts are.

I agree strongly about the 2007 white paper. The rest of your post is more than just a little racist.

Let's assume btw that "blacks at the time" had no ability and no resources to call on in filling the gaps (an idiotic concept, steeped in racist thinking frankly) would you ever stop to consider why that would be? Just out of interest...
