It's Back!

Ta for the info - ran out of electricity today (d'oh!); just tried to re-connect (after having purchased more 'lectric); took several attempts, but I was finally able to. Speed is poor, though - had my connection for a week and this is the slowest it's been. Guess it will take a while, what with everybody reconnecting and stuff.

Same problem. Mine started earlier though, at about 17:50. Reconnected just after 7

Also can reconnect now, but the Kyalami tower is dog slow for me ... something is really sick ... could barely post this.

At least I was getting 61 kbps last night ...

Download time: 173.709 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 23.5 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 2.9 (kiloBytes/second)

Today is useless!

Am not capped according to WBS's site, and doesn't seem to be the 'Cap of Death' as my average speed on http download from www.burst.co.za is an amazing ... 4.79 KB/Sec, usually its still full speed when capped or CoD.

As I said sick.

Almost sounds like the premature cappulation of a couple of months back. Absolute max of 8 kBps

But even then www.iburst.co.za was fast, now it isnt?

Just reconnected with WindowsXP just to test if it was the authentication funnies from a week or so ago. Same speed ...

Download time: 105.292 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 38.7 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 4.7 (kiloBytes/second)

I'm talking about the events in July, primarily in Pta, if I remember correctly. Absolutely everything slower than dial-up, thought at one stage it was IP related. See http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=23276

OK wasnt ever affected that way myself, did experience 'cap of death' but www.iburst.co.za was always fast.

The problems I experienced were probably due to failures on the bw mgmt/capping system, while I think this has more to do with the underlying network. Still not sure whether radio or tower backhaul to core ... will use utTraceStar to check my radio side.

Nope, radio side looks same as always ... ave -66 dB steady on Kyalami tower (no tower jumping)

Also all protocols (I've tested) inc. ICMP exibit the same level of slowness, so its not the proxy.

By deduction I'm guessing the problem is related to backhaul bandwidth from the tower to the core. Probably primary link failed, running on backup (maybe with all sessions capped to 64Kbps to protect the much lesser bw provided by backup path)?

As a matter of interest, have you checked the load on the tower?

The other thing that we found at the time was that if you disconnect for a long period (1 - 8 hours) and then reconnect, you might actually get a good connection again. Or you might not :(
Another was that the assigned IP seldom changed on a disconnect / reconnect.

I just wish that WBS would be more forthcoming with relevant info... Oops, too early for dreams!

Load steady on 2, also have done many, many disconnects inc. 20 min power off ... nothing changed the situation yet.

There is something fundementally broken ... and they keep telling us to look at the status page ... yet nothing is there to indicate problems ... LOVELY!

Yep upgraded to Oct 2005 fw when it first came out, and has been working well since installed ... 800-1024 Kbps ... except for the last few days.

Also been experiencing very slow speeds the last 2 days. Used to be fine, but now all traffic is dog-slow.

Not capped.

Something is wrong.

Oh yeah - connecting to Kyalami tower.
