from a friend of mine. he has a 1996 Toyota corrola

I took my car for a roadworthy assessment this morning, they told me that there the steering rack boot and stabilizer bars are slightly bent.

I have booked it in for a major service and
repairs for Monday at Toyota Fourways.

i think toyota is going to make him pay and arm and a leg, please help, should he take the car to a toyota stealership or does anyone know a cheap mechanic around?

Anyone would be cheaper than a Toyota dealership. Especially on an older car, they rip people off senselessly when they don't have a new car.

Both those jobs can done by anyone capable of calling himself a mechanic. The car is way past its sell by date, no need to go to any Toyota Agent at all.

But on a more serious note I had a Corrola around the same age, i serviced it myself changed the cam belt did all the electronic things myself when something stopped working and I know nothing about cars also i hate getting my hands dirty(greasy).

So your friend should consider buying the parts(scrapyard or whereever) and maybe get a friend to do it. How hard can it be? Take out the old part fit the new part, its like upgrading your ram.

You pay for piece of mind. Do you really trust any mechanic with an old car?
Besides which, they have to quote him before they start the work, so, get the quote first and then decide.
