Hey all, my first post, but have been reading this forum for awhile. Site rocks :p

ANyway My problem is this, I got Iburst last month(August), and man was it it great, downloads flew at 1mb, it was a great feeling, I thought I had reach my 'sweet spot' as you guys refer to towers. September came rolling along, I couldnt wait to play around, then came the first random dissconnection .... then the second, then a min of 10 a day. I couldnt complete any downloads, since the sources doesnt allow resume. 2 gigs of wasted BW, no worry. then, in the last 3 days, dissconnects went down, but so did my average download speed, I mean max 32-34 kbs, nothing big, but with the dissconnects, almost everything dies.

Now I need help lol, Here's a ping result with idle connection

Request timed out.

My signel strength is almost always at 100%, I live like 1 Km from the WBS office in radio park, area = auckland park.

Total newb, so please help lol

Try switching your utd off for a couple of minutes and reconnect.

Are you running through a router? I've noticed that sometimes I need to reset my router as well in order to get my internet back up...

Try repositioning your modem and use the USB cable to test your FRAME ERROR rate.

2 things you need strong signal from tower, strong signal to tower.

sig from tower - look at Iconnect post or accessing utd you need a sig below 85 to stay connected. - Also check for handovers to towers that have a great distance measure at times of disconnection move arial to avoid these towers and get better signal

sig 2 tower use uotrace and monitor connection under poll mode .. you want no packet loss and the two counters send and recieve must be flowing at a constant (fast is better) rate and at same rate. -There is no other way to test this

If you don't have arial you can move UTD around with and do same tests but if your sig >85 get arial. OR just get it anyway!

hmm k with iconnect my tower = northcliff signal str = unstable like a mofo goes between 90db to - 112db latency times out after a few mins.
i see that the auckland park tower is visible, is there some way to force it to use that tower ?

Yes, get an aerial from Gres. Point it at the relevant tower. Enjoy. :)

no you cant force it to use a certain tower with software, the whole system is designed to change towers often and seamlesly, the arial will work in some cases because you'll improve signal strength towards one direction above others and therefor the system will always leave you on a certain tower because it sees you better off there.

but the problem is what if the direction you're aiming for has 2 towers, then basically you can only guarantee you'll be on one of the two.

you said you had 1mbit so how sure are you its the tower, could it not be a network problem? it just seems funny how speed would change so dramatically between 2 months. whats your frame error rate

It's time to adjust your sleeping habits TwinDuct to allow yourself the pleasure of experiencing better contention (at least thats what I put it down to) :)

My ping averages on Northcliff tower to www.iburst.co.za

During the day: 800ms average (major packet loss)
During the evening (before 1am): 450ms average (minor packet loss)
Early hours of the morning: Between 42 and 64ms depending on the weather. Perfect for browsing, dl's or a good game of Guild Wars.

Unfortunately this limits a good "broadband" experience to weekends, for me. The "sweet spot" is a white elephant as far as daytime goes, for Northcliff.

Btw, you could also pump the results of you iconnect to a log file and look through there. Might be a bit more helpful.

evilspinach: not here ... even after 1am up and until 6am I get random dissconnects and still crappy speed.

Crash: will try lol.

It's getting worse lol, everytime I connect now, it dissconnects and I have to reconnect .. everytime lol.
I have been running around with my UTD, and the best place was the one it started at, my window :/

Gonna call tech support and arrrange something, this doesnt feel normal, I mean the speed I can understand, but that my UTD doesnt move away from northcliff tower and these random dissconnects. well cant call them random anymore :p

Cant even start any online game lol, getting pings of 500-800 on local servers for anything (NWN,BF2 and etc.), it timed out when creating an account lol.

Something must be wrong.
