OK, so i do expect some of you who would snigger at this attack.

They were apparently stabbed - 1 guy serverly, but it just sends out another bad message about SA and table mountain.

Certaintly, if something like that happens to a south african in Oz, i surely feel embarrassed.

Crikey Boodles!

How can you do that - calling people Aussies is no laughing matter :D
Actually I agree - this is very serious - Table mountain is getting quite a reputation. Where can you go to get away from these thugs these days!?

Is it too obvious for the gov to consider beefing up security dramatically at these tourist hotspots? I mean this is not the first time one hears about attacks of this nature. I know it's a large area to patrol but hey, at least try, if not for the tourists but for locals too.

Pretty soon areas like Table Mountain will be seen on tv, in books or from a distance only

The criminals will start robbing and stabbing each other :D

I think that the Australian confusion may have crept in because it'll be the venue for the 2010 World Cup when it is taken away from South Africa because of the abysmal record on crime!

Cant we have coppers patrolling by helicopter or something?
The air wing were up there soon after it happened (in the afternoon). They do patrol, but not the mountain. It's too hazardous. At least the chopper went there, which is a new thing.

It seems to be. But instead they seem to think the solution is to only allow people up in groups. How many people in groups are going to go up if there's a huge sign that says individuals/couples aren't allowed up in case they get mugged. Stupidity...

Can you believe the last line:

Cape Town Tourism general manager Mariette du Toit called the robberies "unfortunate".

May be "Outrageous" or "Disgusting" might have been a better choice of word?

It's throw away lines with "unfortunate" that will ensure the loss of tourists and probably the 2010 FA World Cup. If the latter does (as I rather suspect it will) happen, will anyone wake up and smell the coffee??

If they haven't woken up yet which they clearly haven't then no.
