Just remember this is the old Kindle model (not the paperwhite) , after shipping and VAT, it will most likely cost the same as here. That model is probably going to be on special in our shops too...

Also you can still get Amazon to ship for you, but import tax is totally insane, it really now is more expensive to buy this on Amazon than locally.

Thanks for the feedback. The price is now back to $69 in any case. Amazon has been offering some really good discounts on their Kindles this Christmas.

Not for the Paperwhite. Still cheaper to buy direct from Amazon. The older model can be bought from Game for R1500, so there's not much difference, although normally it would still be enough cheaper from Amazon to rather buy direct.

Nah, i actually went all the way through the ordering process on Amazon. The Wifi+3G model Paperwhite after shipping+VAT+taxes came to about R4000 (so i cancelled the order). You can buy that same one here for R3000.

So either i'm missing something or people are simply guessing based on the USA pricing which is not applicable to international orders. Do the actual order on Amazon (with a ZA address, so the pricing is in Rand) right until they calculate the taxes and all.

No, I'm taking the wi-fi version through to checkout. Both the Touch and Paperwhite. I have no use for 3G, so I don't usually bother to check that one. Comes to R3700 if you do, but it's not a model I've seen often in the shops here. Considering the typical current price of the wi-fi model the exchange has probably pushed the 3G one to at least R4000. Takealot do a parallel import of the special offers version, which brings their price for the Wi-fi version down to R100 more than direct from Amazon, but their price for the 3G is R700 less, although there is no stock. If someone has the full version going for R3000 that is a good price. If I were buying a wi-fi Paperwhite one right now I'd buy it direct. Touch model the same.

What's the warranty support like here? Do the shops just swap it out if there is a fault?

Rather let your card do the currency conversion not Amazon ;)

Your warranty will be Amazon, from what I've heard they're pretty good.
